Please help. What does this mean: Unable to transmit using UDP port 5730

i am at school in my dorm room and when i try to connect to play online i get this message:

Unable to transmit using UDP port 5730.
u may need to connect directly to the internet or
adjust your connection device, ie router settings etc.
Assign DMZ, Port Mapping, Configure NAT Table and other
router settings to the console.

some people have told me that my school runs a firewall and that they would open some ports for it to work so i asked and they said they wont do it. so is there anything else i can do to get this to work. somebody else told me i can run a my comp as a server or something like that. but any help is greatly appreciatly. thanks
