Hi :)

I'm new to this forum and new to totally new to mod chipping altogether... I have thought about the hardware and software modding options and the constantly swapping discs doesn't seem an attractive option. I would like to opt for a hardware mod, but if I can do it myself, I would prefer to do that...

What I was wondering is how difficult is it really to install a mod chip? I have soldering experience from when I was back in university, and know my way around PCBs etc, but I still have a small fear inside telling me that I'm going to ruin a whole system if I mess up...

I'm presuming that every expert out there started with a mod and wasn't 100% sure what to do... Any advice on installing one? Anything I need to look out for?

I've read the guide written by Tokijin, and it has settled down my nerves a bit. I still can't really decide between the 3 big chips... Can anyone tell me fundamentally what the differences are? Or are they all just relatively the same?

With regards to the wiring, is it common for the chip to come with wires or would I have to go and buy the wiring myself?
I read somewhere that the contact will have to be cleaned before soldering, would normal nail varnish remover on a q-tip be ok for that?

I have come across the matrix infinity (green dot) mod chips on some web sites, e.g.:-

http://www.mrmodchips.co.uk/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=73

and

http://www.ps3consolemods.co.uk/product_info.php?cPath=22_30&prod...

From those websites it says that they are selling the "green dot" version, but the picture shows a chip with a orangy/brown dot... Is the "green dot" a version name or does it mean that it have to specifically have to have a green dot? :p

Does anyone know any reputable modchip selling sites that are in/ships to the UK?

Lastly, should I just give up the idea of it all and just get a pro to do it? (I would prefer to do it myself not so much for the cost saving, but more because it would be a small interesting project)

Sorry for so many questions... I just want to be a prepared as possible...

Many thanks in advance :)

yes, it is quite difficult to chip a ps2 if you have no experience. i fried 2 sets in 2 days when i first tried it.

matrix infinity seems to be a nice option, so is crystal chip. if u want a DMS4 chip on it, i highly suggest it to be sent to a pro.

personally i have a great sense of satisfaction everytime i successfully chip a ps2, which is why i started anyway. however, if you cant bear the thought of failure, you should get it done by a pro.

feels reallllllllll bad when the ps2 doesnt work and you dont know the problem with it =(
