I have looked at all 211 pages and maybe I missed it some how. But I was wondering if HP Dvd-r made in Taiwan are good disks?? I found a really good sale at Staples this week for the 50pk and couldn't pass it up. I have gone ahead and used a couple already and have had no problems. But i still have many to go. Just want to make sure that these are ok to by again. I do not know how to code them or any of that. So I want to thank you all in advance for your help.

actually, HP DVD-R are pretty poor~ :) they are predominantly CMC MAG manufactured throughout their DVD-R formats in all the rated speeds~ :)

DVD-R 4.7GB CMC MAG. AE1 8x
DVD-R 4.7GB CMC MAG. AM3 16x

CMC MAG produces MANY of their DVD+R format as well~

DVD+R 4.7GB CMC MAG.E01 8x
DVD+R 4.7GB CMC MAG.M01 16x
DVD+R 4.7GB PHILIPS.C08 8x
DVD+R 4.7GB PHILIPS.C16 16x

btw, philips is NOT much better in this case, i wouldn't use either one of them if given a choice personally~

i would NOT recommend you buy more HP branded dvds, but that's just MY personal assessment of the situation~ :) it's YOUR money, only YOU can decide how to spend it~

Recommended Media:

Taiyo Yuden 4x dvd-r TYGO1/ 8x dvd-r TYGO2/ 8x dvd+r YUDEN000T02/ 16x dvd+r YUDEN000T03
Verbatim 8x dvd+r MCC003
Verbatim dvd+r DL (MKM001)= flawless no compression backups

This is the second straight week for that HP sale at staples. It's a rip-off! Even on sale, that is way too much money for Cmag media!

I believe they are $14.94 a spindle, correct?

I get all my verbatim and sony ty below $14.99 for 50 packs spindles. This is top notch stuff, featuring advanced metal azo dye that Verbatim-mitsubishi chemical corp, and taiyo yuden demand on their high quality media.

Cmags may be ok,or not ok. A lot depends on the quality of your burner, and how your stand alone players will react to them. Look for pixellation/freezing/jumping/skipping/and no disc inserted errors on all your stand alone players.

You may have to baby those cmags:

Keep the burn speed under 4x.If problems arrise,go slower.

You may have to reduce that backup target to 4300 mbs. Uneven dye is usually the case with low quality discs. This is if you have issues at the end of your backups.

Keep compression to a minimum.

Longevity: Don't place anything important on them. You may be hurting later on down the road when you may need a copy of it and too many crc errors in it.
