Hello freinds:

I want to put a lot of my old VHS tapes onto DVD. I just bought a Canopus ADVC 300 capturing device and it works great.

I just bought a copy of Nero 7 Ultra Edition. I have NEVER used Nero and I am new to the whole DVD burning concept other than a few simple copy and burns with Sonic MYDVD.

I am reading the little guide that comes along with it but it is not too specific.

*What part of the Nero suite should I use to capture my old VHS tapes?

*What is the best format to capture in, ie MPeg1, MPeg2, AVI, etc and how would I chose it?

A very important part to remember is that a lot of my old VHS tapes are high school football games and the are about 2 and half hours long.

*I want to be able to edit the commericals. I like the way Windows Movie Maker will segement up the video capture which allows you to 'trim' out unwanted parts like a commerical. Does Nero have this option? Whats the best way to edit out the unwanted video with Nero?

*I would like to be able to put my 2 and half long videos on the standard 4.7 GB blank DVD. Will I have to compress the video to fit on the 4.7 GB disk? If so, how can I compress it with Nero(or does it do it automatically)?

*There are certian VHS tapes that are 2 and half hours long that I want to get the best possible image quality and I would be willing to burn them to a 8.5 GB DVD. What is the best way to do these?

*In the future, most of what I will be doing is capturing 1 hour videos. What is the best way with Nero to do these with the best possible picture quality?

If there are other things I need to know, please let me know.

Thanks,
MJ

Well, to answer one of my own questions, I found out you can use the Nero Vision 4 part of the Suite to capture video.

I haven't tried it yet but if anyone has a few tips on how to use NV4, any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
MJ
