hopefully some of you guys can help me out with my pain in the bum
problem.
My sister moved back to the UK after 15 years in america last year,
she brought back with here about 70 NTSC dvds full of shows copyied
os US TV
i was converting them all too PAL dvds using my DK player and recording onto my SHARP dvd recorder,but now my DK player has
broken down and out of stock,so i bought a new panasonic player but it would not let me copy the NTSC dvds,so i had taken it back to the shop and got it
changed to a sony player but it is also not letting me make copies,
so is there anyone out there in internetland that knows of a dvd player that
will let me know record the NTSC dvds to PAL dvds.
What would be good if anyone knows were to buy a region free dvd
player.

you can get AnyDVD from Slysoft that will take out your regional codes and and make it region free...which will allow you to reburn your DVDs on the computer... if you have a burner installed in your computer! Then you can use CloneDVD, also from Slysoft to record your DVDs.....http://www.slysoft.com/en/
much cheaper to buy these than a whole new dvd writer!
Being as how the DVDs are already recordings done to DVD, there is probably no need for resizing, which means you probably don't need a transcoder to record them. That leaves off the need for CloneDVD 2. A simple copy utility such as Disc Copy in most recording suites will do the burn when copying 1:1. As mentioned, AnyDVD will make the recorded DVDs region free. DVD Region + CSS Free is another. As long as the equipment used supports NTSC (read, write, and play), you can do a region free copy with no problems. Depending on whether the recordings are from any factory DVD sources, there may be no need for the AnyDVD. That said, I realize your problem is the playability issue between the NTSC format and the PAL system your telly and other equipment is geared to play.

Here's another app for converting NTSC to PAL. There's also a good description of what the NTSC and PAL differences are and where the playability issues come in. Unless you have some expensive multi-system capable equipment, you won't be able to play NTSC on your PAL DVD player and telly. You may or may not need the region free software to correct the region code during the conversion process. That depends on whether a region code was recorded to the recorded videos. Region codes are used by the entertainment industry to encrypt DVD movies for different region release times. So, the home recording may not even have a region code. In that case, no problem and no need even for the AnyDVD. Try the conversion first, there may be no region code and probably no protection of any sort. Factory DVD backups are a different breed of problem. Those definitely have the region codes plus CSS and other copyright protections on the original. Backups have the region code unless recorded region free.
