I am going to try and get some homebrew happening on my kids Jap psp, as I understand from what I have been reading a lot of UMD games he has will be unplayable once we have the homebrew, he has GTA, Crash Tag Team and a few others. If he wants to play the original UMD Disc we are going to have to wipe the homebrew and start again? I dont think he is going to like that, allthough I did get this cool 4gig mem stick with long life battery, he has a bunch of mp4 files, that will end up on there for sure, the other concern I have is I read that some of the 1.5 downloads have a virus that bricks the psp, depends on where you download it?? has anyone had any grief with that, I reqally dont want to be buying a new psp first thing Monday morning.
Well, with 4 gigs, you can easily fit the games on the MS... and I think there's a way to load the UMDs from 1.5 with MPH loader. Download your files to downgrade at the MPH site and whatever else is needed at PSP hacks (that's what I did, and I haven't had a single problem)
Firstly are you on 2.0 firmware? if your any higher it wont be downgradeable. If its 2.0 then your good to go, for running your umds ive heard this worx pspsetx0.3 you have to trick it into thinkin its 3.0 http://www.dcemu.co.uk/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=20669 ( this only works on 2.0 )
You can try Zxms method on 1.5 or the
UMD loader

Also the 4gb hadd and extra batt you got , is it the Datel HDD? if so be really careful with it, the raubber connector that hangs out is so fragile, ive wrecked it b4.
Thank you guys, that has helped a lot. yea its the Datel kit, arrived yesterday, looks good, and this is why these sites are so helpfull, I would never have given that a thought about the cable plug, I will be gentle. I can download the 2.0 update from a site then downgrade to 1.5 and that is a concern I looked at psphacks and thats where I saw the warning about were I download the ver.1.5....I need to follow the threads that you have both given, digest it, I will let you know how it works out.
