Yeah basically sometime when i turn my psp on i like to look at other stuff than just play games so is there a way i can stop it from instantly booting from the umd when i turn it on. Like a shortcut eg when you hold shift down to stop autorun in windows.

Go to security settings
and put the security level on 1..
the default password is 0000 leave it as that.
Now when your system boots up, its going to ask for you to put in password.
just press 0 to go to the shell menu or press x to play the game.
And then when you are ready to play the game you go around to umd in the game menu when it asks for the password just press X(thats why i said put the password as 0000)

just open the umd door when the sys boots. once the main menu comes and the sys stops loading just close the door... i do it all the time and it doesnt effect your psp at all

its easier my way all you do is press one button, why would u wanna keep doin it that way, i've had my umd fly out the drive a few times cause of that.. i bet you if you lose a few umds you'll change your mind

@Joeva: that is such a clever idea. i thought ud have to alter the firmware or flash or sumfin like that... but i like using umds to fly... i mean, its a thing to do to pass time at work :P
also, i found that putting ur psp to sleep it a sort of alternative. rather than hold the power button up, jus 'flick' it up, but dont hold it. i think it may drain more battery, but meh...

yeah, sleep mode is a bad method... parental control is a good method, and keeping GTA in the drive is the best method!!
lol... at least for us who bought GTA... since its like having a game on your memory stick, kinda, well... sort of... you get it right? dont you?

i am VERY positive. is there a way to 'reset' the password?
would downgrading the firmware alter the password in any way?

Eh they need to make homebrew or something that would stop it from doing so, I just keep either GTA or Burnout in the drive though so when it promps to upgrade I say no and it brings me to the menu.
Steps to bricking a PSP:
1. Get a brick
2. Hit the psp with it untill it won't run any longer
Congratulations, your psp is now bricked.

Things that could be going wrong:
* The demo UMD has no parental settings and thats why its not stopping it from loading, try another umd that possibly has a m15+ rating or whatever you guys have in America.
* It doesnt work for 1.5 (i think so cos honestly ive never gotten this method to work on my 1.5) Ive also heard of other people say ing it worked when they were on 2.0 but not now they are on 1.5
Sometimes to keep things peaceful you need a Piece thats Full

Impossible cause i have a 1.5 and it works for me. I can try with a demo disc tomorrow and see, but to my knowledge demos dont need parental settings.
