..couldn't find the proverbial compatability sheet you usually get on a manufacturers website so that's the nearest i can find.

but basically, you should only feed it decent quality media, ie Verbatim and/or Taiyo Yuden. a quick glance thru the first page of this very forum will show the overwhelming recommendation of decent media over inconsistent cheapy alternatives...

edit- found a review here - http://www.cdrlabs.com/reviews/index.php?reviewid=274&page=Conclusion

and i'll quote a couple of snippets..
Quote:
Writing quality was also an issue with the GSA-2166D as we saw high PI/PIF rates and even some PO Failures with a number of discs. Hopefully, LG can address this in a future firmware update.
Quote:
If LG can improve the writing quality, it could be one of the better external 16x DVD writers out there
Quote:
Questionable writing quality with some DVD±R and DVD+R DL media
i'd keep my eyes peeled for firmware releases according to that..

@creaky

I was thinking of buying this drive awhile ago, Best Buy here had it on sale for 90.00 USD, but read that review at cdrlabs and did not like the fact of the PI/PO errors, and the snippet about the dual layer media. Hope LG gets it fixed considering the drive has a lot of potential.

no worries. ps just noticed your previous reply about HP discs - they're 'CMC MAG. AE1' - foul atrocious things (ugh!), keep looking for the Verbatim ones.. :)
