Personally, I would stick with Verbatim Dual Layers. They are on Sale for 2 bucks a piece at Best Buy regularly. They are Proven to be The Best ones out there. I do not know the code, but I DO know that verbatims are better. If I was going to spenhd 2 bucks each, I would get the best. Just my opinion.

Use The Best Media for The Best Burns! TYs, Verbs,(Made in Taiwan) Sony MIJs (YUDEN000 T02), Sony Made in Taiwan DVD+R 16x, Maxell MIJ, RITEK G05.

Okay, just wondering. FWIW, Supermediastore still has the Verbs on sale for $29.99 shipped, with a $10 rebate.

Legand,

I've seen mixed reviews on Ritek media. Generally speaking, they're good, although not the best. Personally I've have 100% success with Verbatim and about 75% failure with Memorex. Those are the only two I've tried.

DL is still in its infancy, so the technology is still being developed all the time. Thus, the high prices. For your further info, you can look here:

http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm

A lot of good information there.

A few things about DL burning: Make sure you're disconnected from the net, turn off spyware and virus programs, turn off screensavers. In other words, devote as much of your computing resources as possible to your burning. Make sure your firmware is current. Now if you have a Plextor 716-A, you'll want to keep your firmware at 1.08 since 1.09 is known to have bugs. Start your project and go have a sandwich or a cold one.

Happy burning!!

What bugs does the Plextor 1.09 firmware have? I haven't had any problems with it burning Ritek F-1 (16x) at 8x speed, Sony MIT 8x at 8x & Verbatin +R DL up to 6x...

bratcher:

It's been known to cause problems with the 716-A in hampering its ability to read some CDs and DVDs. The burning isn't affected very much, if any at all. I had a 716-A that Plextor RMA'd and replaced. The replacement came in with 1.08 firmware already. I flashed to 1.09 and the problems started again. I flashed back to 1.08 and the problems went away.

If you're burning and reading okay with 1.09, then leave well enough alone. Not all 716-A are broken by 1.09, but some are. Just a little food for thought. Stuff happens sometimes.

The only predictable thing about computers is the unpredictability.

My Plextor (with 1.09 firmware) has trouble reading discs burned with an LG 2166D external burner (reads them around 2x) connected to a Sony computer but reads it's own (Plextor burned in the Dell) discs just fine. I don't consider it to be a big problem just a minor one & assume it's firmware related...
