My current router serves 4 computers. I have an extra router with 4 additional ports. Can I connect them together instead of buying an 8 port router?

Check the manual on both routers, it is possible. You'll have to set the second router as "passive", or bridge....in other words, not DHCP. Letting the first one assign the IPs over the network.
