I've got an issue where one of my PC's will not dub off of a backup. I have had no issues for over a year doing this and now out of the blue I'm getting medium errors. I thought it may be the drive so I bought another drive different from the first one and still getting these errors. I thought it may be the media but are sony/ty discs for the most part. Then I thjought well maybe the copy is just very old and I should pull data off and reburn the movie..but thats not it either. I just ripped some of these movies a month ago and still getting read errors on one PC and not the other with the same disc!!! Anyone with any suggestions, please help!

Software tried = DVD Decrypter = I/O error, Roxio copy disc gives medium read error.

I have Nero also, but very fond of Roxio. I know most would disagree, but this is what has worked for me for a very long time.

Thanks for the info. Both burners were set in DMA mode however the secondary doesnt display auto run and instead displays Not applicable. I did uninstall any way just to see if it fixed the problem, will post the results once I have them.

auto run sholdnt make any difference to read ability try instaling a new ide ribbon cable also fluctuating voltage from your power supply unit can cause problems like this but usually they are acompanied by computer crashes

Well I have tried again and no success. Took the same copy and tried on my dell Dimension 8400 and it went very smooth with no problems. As far as the ribbon I tried that right away when the problem started happening and that's what led me to believe it was the drive so I replaced for no reason. The only thing that I can think of is my array of discs. The read error was accompanied by error log and it stated in the log that array had some issue involved, but it works fine when copying original discs and other back up's. I don't know for sure, but I do know that the PC has no issues reading from original discs, only back up's and it's hit and miss, in other words, some back up's I can copy and some I cannot. Just wierd that the same disc that won't work in one machine will work in another as well as friends machines. Some of these titles I have just added and others were less than 10 months ago. I even watched the progress to see if maybe it slowed down at the particular spot on the PC that worked and no it didn't, but the PC that didn't work sounded like the drive cut off after hitting 82% and I then no it's not going to work. By the way I thought maybe a bad drive that should be RMA back. Nope the secondary drive produced the same error. I'm not sure if the power supply is an issue because it does work on originals 100% of the time and you would think that encrypted disc would put more strain than a back up. This is WIERD to me and equally frustrating! My power supply is an ULTRA X connect 450 or 550 watt

Do you think it could be MB issue with the IDE port? It still wouldnt make sense as to why it only happens with back up's. I'm baffled at this point!

I think you can rule out a hardware issue if you can do orignals but not copys
Do you have AnyDVD or DVD43 running in the background or incd ?

Normally AnyDVD at startup. Should I try having it not run at start up? I know that when I close the app it still shows to be working onn Roxio with original discs. I'll try it and see. Thanks for the help though I truely need sanity at this point. Oh' by the way just was able to do a successful back up in between posts. Hit and Miss again :(

I guess it could be worse. I could have no burners working.
