I was wondering if there is a way to check and see if the blank dvd your going to use is "GOOD OR BAD" before you make the burn
I know there are a few programs that check the quailty of each dvd. Does it make sense to run a test on a blank dvd to see if there any flaws in it before you make that final burn. I mean even top notch media does have flaws how often who knows but from time to time it does happin. any input would be appreaciated thank you
Assuming you have already identified the media code as being high quality? Personally I would just burn the dvd, than run it either through Nero CD/DVD test or DvdInfopro and check the scan result. Most online stores will let you return them if you get a bad batch, even if you've burnt a few. Now as to retail stores, if you've opened them, it like fighting tooth and nail to return them even if not burned to yet. At least that's been my experience.
Thanks for responding so quickly i really appreaciate it a lot. My name is John and this group and form thing is all new to me so i am a newbie. Verbatims are very good media. Depending on what speed you get (16x, 8x, they code out different, but they should all be MCC-(Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation) Which is very good and last very long. Just burn a DVD with those verbs, and run the Nero speed test. Usually 95-100 is very good, and i havent had any verbatim go below 95 score. Its all trial and error with what speed you use to burn your DVD's. I use both 4x and 8x speed. Just try burning at 8x then play it, and run Nero speed test, if no problems and you receive a good score then use 8x. If you are receiving problems, then burn at 4x and see if that helps.
Taiyo Yudens are very good quality also. You can find them at supermediastore.com and meritline.com Thats where I get mine. The verbatim and Taiyo Yudens are the DVD's you want to use. If you do not want to order online, find some Sony's and look at the back. If its made in Japan, then its almost always Taiyo Yudens. Good place to look is at Walmart. Just picked up a pack there the other day.
Stay away from any Office Max brands, TDK, Memorex, and so on.
I only use TY's and Verbs. Best thing to do is run a scan after you do a burn and see which your burner prefers. Either way, you shouldn't have any issues with either.
