Hi all!
I've one PS2 V.10 and i tried to install Ripper IV modchip!
The installation was fine (i guess), but when i boot up the PS2 with a backup it always ask for a compatible PS2 DVD. It didn't recognize the media. I've tried Princo, TDK and EMTEC i will try Verbatim but how do i know that the chip is working or activated?
Thanx in advance!

firstly, check that ripper IV works with V10.
also, i heard comments that ripper IV only works with PAL. believe me i have tried it on NTSC uc and j consoles they dont work.
lastly, i have heard quite a number of bad comments on ripper iv.

the RSOD is not a media quality problem it's the chip not authenticating the disk. your chip isn't doing what it's expected to do for various reasons. you get what you pay for in most cases, you should of went with a DMS4 Pro SE/Matrix Infinity green dot/Crystal Chip 1.1
kc
EDIT: on a V10 you need to make sure you did a Romeo mod to bring the LA voltage down to 5V from it's original 12V to save the laser.

Aaur4: I've checked and all info i found about it says it works on V10. How should i be sure that mine is a PAL system?

Which reasons could be for e.g?
You're saying that DMS4 Pro SE Works. have you tried it on V10? Just to be sure in case to buy another one. :(

What is Romeo mod? (sorry)
I've heard something about to save the laser but it wasn't only for the V12?

the various reasons could be.........
your have wires crossed up somewhere (this one went there and that one went here)
a cold solder joint
a bridged connection
you put a wire in the wrong spot
etc...
etc....
etc......
I've installed DMS chips in every console except a version 2 and that is just because I've yet to have a customer with a V2 console :) so yes the DMS4 Pro SE will work perfectly in a V10
the Romeo mod is lifting pin 17 from the LA chip (12v supply) and hooking the lifted leg to a 5v source on the mobo, this prevents over current of the laser focus coils on scratched or poor quality media.
kc
EDIT: the Romeo mod is a V9 V10 only mod.

it's the #3 chip in my book but has an advantage of auto DNAS patching for online play that the other chips do not offer. i still prefer the DMS4 Pro SE for features that other chips do not currently offer. the choice falls on what features your most interested in.

Yes KC is right, DMS4 Pro has the best for loading games off the HD, Crystal Chip 1.1 auto patches for online play, and Matrix Infinity well it is just for booting games off a disc no special features like Crystal Chip 1.1 and DMS4 Pro have.
v7 w/ Crystal Chip 1.1, Boot Manager 1.8, and HD Loader v0.7c w/ 80 GB HD
v7 w/ DMS4 Pro and Toxic OS .41 w/ 200 GB HD

the Matrix has Dev mode booting and is equally impressive in booting percentage as the DMS4, and to tell the truth has a longer life expectancy over the DMS4, i myself still prefer the DMS. :)

Well!
I've dicided by the DSM4 Lite version!
What do you think about this one?
The same as the PRO version but less features. I would not need more than that i guess. Probably i would install an 20GB HDD drive on it but not right now. Now it would be just to play backups!
Thnx to all!

Hey xpago, if you're thinking of using a hard drive with your ps2 (which I always recommend because it helps save the laser), then I believe you should get the dms4 pro. The pro has the option of booting from a hard drive. You can't with the lite. Atleast not from the mod chip. It's definately worth the extra $10.

That's right!
After my last post i realised that it wouldn't be the best choice for HDD install.
I was ordering the DSM4 PRO, but there is an SE too.
What should i choose DSM4 PRO or DSM4 SE PRO?
I didn't understand what are the really diferences but 1st one is cheaper than 2nd one!
Thnx in advance!

The se is just the new, smaller version of the old chip. Both still function the same. The non se is cheaper because the seller is just trying to clear out his stock.
If you're installing it into the slim model ps2, then the se would be better. But I see you have a v10, the old fat model, so either would be fine for you.

the hyper threading is different in the SE as well and the Toxic OS 0.41 is wrote to specifically deal with those issues and there are a few other changes (ground bounce is eliminated) that make installation easier (better point layout) defiantly get the SE.
kc
EDIT: here are the improvements over the old DMS4 Pro non SE
Quote: Optimized PCB layout
Optimized PCB size
Actel chip now has smaller package size
Hardware code revised to over increased stability and patching performance
Revised the installation point of Q, which now becomes C on the V12-V13 and V14 series of PS2 consoles. (Installation on V1-V11 remains unchanged)
Serial flash technology
Improved error checking
Improved filtering of noise
