ok here is what i need to do. i have a dvd which i ripped. i have the vob files. what i did was i converted them to avi with an mp3 with DVD2AVI. Now im using TMPGEnc to take the two files (avi and mp3) to put them into one file. but the file is over 1gb, and i need to burn it to cd. (cdr 700mb) now the question i have, is there a way i can split the file in 2 or reduce the file size down to 700mb? possibly using TMPGEnc? i could really use some help with this. thx

edit: also, is there a program that allows you to go from the ripped vob files to an avi or mpg file with sound under 700mb? or a way to do that with TMPGEnc or DVD2AVI? thx

yes you can split up a mpeg with TMPGEnc go to "File" then down to "MPEG tools" and then look for the "merge and cut" tab, after that add your movie to the list and then select it and hit "edit"
On the new screen select a reasonable amount for the first half of your VCD and then hit "OK".
In the original screen select an output file, say "Part 1" and hit "run", it will go through the process and then give you a VCD file to copy onto your first CD
Then just do the same for the second part, changing the start and finish sections and the output file to "Part 2"
You should be good to go then
Might take a bit of trial and error to get the right amount on each half but it doesn`t take long.
It is also kinda cool cos you can pick where you want the VCD to split, ie not in the middle of an important scene just cos that is how much will fit
Well let me know if this works ?
Also works great for joining files that have been converted to Mpeg so you can divide yourself

For the past 2 days I've been installing and uninstalling programs that were supposed to split a 1.2gig mpeg into 2. With no luck (and xp crashing twice) Finally I came up on TMPGEnc.... exactly what I was looking for. The wizard is so easy to use... i was cutting within a minute of install. Took about an hour for a 1.2gig file to be cut. Definetly an awesome program.... and seems very stable also...
