Hello everyone,

I've been reading a few forums and threads with people having issues with DVD-R Dual Layer.

Some buy them not even sure their drive will support them.

Some are having issues with their drive not even recognizing them, even with the latest firmware.

If you have bought/used some DVD-R DL please share with us your experience.

I'm curious to see the success rate, since those are pretty new !

I bought a 3-pack and a 15-pack of dual layer memorex. Burned about 12 of them and had playback problems on 4 right around the layer change. They skipped or froze and CD/DVD Speed and DVDInfoPro both revealed CRC errors right around the layer change. I then went out and bought a few spindles of Verbatim daul layers and so far I've burned about 20 from 2 different spindles with no playback issues whatsover. No CRC errors when scanning with CD/DVD Speed and DVDInfoPro. Needless to say I am sticking with the Verbs and not buying any memorex dual layer media again.

thelox714 and socrates9.........
Y'all did notice he's asking about -R DL's and not the +R DL's, right?

My burner doesn't support the -R DL's, so I don't buy them.

I am having trouble burning Ridata DVD-R Dual Layer on my BenQ DW 1640 DVD using 1 Click DVD copy 4.2. I have failed every time. Writing to the disc doesn't work at all. This is the first time I have found a DVD disc which won't burn. Any help will be appreciated.

Hi there,

What firmware is installed on your burner ?

http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=2053

Latest version is BSRB

http://support.benq.com/files/storage/Firmware/DVDRW/DW1640/BSRB.zip

Use tools like VSO Inspector, DvdInfoPro, Nero InfoTool and see if your burner (With the latest firmware) does support DVD-R DL.

Thank you cougar_ii. Updating the firm ware helped. Now the Ridata Dual Layer DVD burns but fails to finalize. I should not have purchased so many DVD's until I was sure they worked.

Thanks for yourt quick response.

i bought a 10 pack of Verbatim DVD+R DL at newegg not long ago, (backing up Friends for the wife). They worked great. It sucks burning it at only 2.4x though (takes about 35 mins).
