I currently create SVCD with commercial TEMPGEnc Plus. But MPEG-2 allows mw to write 35 min in a standard 650MB CD.
I've heard of DivX allowing to store 80-90min of video in a near DVD quality.
Can someone tell more on this or suggest any utility that I can try.
p.s. I'm not familiar with DivX coding.
yeah if you encode with the divx codec you can fit a 3 hour movie on a 700 mb cd although quality wont be that great, personally, 90-100 min. movie is ideal for fitting onto one disk, also you can choose almost any resolution with DivX, Im not too sure about svcds but i think it only allows one resolution setting. the only drawback with DivX is that you cant watch them on standalone dvd players, youd have to watch them on your comp. if you really want to know more visit DivX.com.

I downloaded the latest DivX codec but VirtualDub doesn't run (it cannot find VWF driver see below*), also it cannot open AVI file which I captured with Ulead Video Studio 6.
As I cannot run VirtualDUB I cannot run DivX codec. What would you suggest un this case?

seems to be ok after a fresh system install.
I have installed DirectX 8.1 which seems to include DV update but I get an error by VirtualDub!!!
I prefer SVCD to divx for 2 reasons, I can play it back on a stand alone! Also if you make VBR SVCD then the quality will be much higher and you can fit more on a cd aswell!! You can use 2 pass encoding with TMPGEnc Plus. I use DVD2SVCD with CCE SP, 4 pass encoding and the quality is very near dvd quality!!

Now I use predefined template for SVCD (constant bitrate) in order to create a CD that will be played by a standalone DVD player.
I don't know If I will be able to play custom SVCD (vbr) on my DVD player! Thats is the question, but I'm very satisfied with TMPGEnc Plus and cbr.
