I have a v14 ps2 modded with Crystal Chip 1.1. i burn my backups on Verbatim AZO 16x DVD-R @ 4X, and i'll get some taiyo yudens after i'm done with my verbatims.

how long will my laser last? i play about 2-5 hours a day normally

well, there is no answer to that question.
But if you got a laser fix installed when you got the chip installed it will most likely be for a while.
and since both Verbatims & Taiyo Yuden are good media that will help as well.
