It looks like your problem is coming from the media that you are using:

Your burner doesn't have a burn strategy for the Fuji's (actual media code was RitecF-1) you are using. This may be resolved with a firmware upgrade, but I would advise you to buy some better media like Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden. Fuji media is OK if you can find the ones that are made in Japan.

Power calibration error
There are two common causes for power calibration errors.

Low Quality Media

At the start of each burn the drive will burn to a small section of the disc to adjust the laser power for the media being used. Low quality media is inconsistent and will frequently give hit or miss results during the power calibration. AN32, CMC and Moser Baer are common low quality media.

The only recourse for power calibration errors with low quality media is to update the firmware for your drive and hope it works. Here's a link to the best firmware page to be found:
http://forum.rpc1.org/portal.php

Your Burner Is Dying

This one is self-explanatory.

If you're using quality media, your firmware is up to date and you're still recieving power calibration errors then your old drive is dying or your new drive is most likely defective.

I updated my firmware yesterday via tech support with I/O Magic. So, there shouldn't be a newer firmware out there for me.

Best Buy has a 50 pack of dvd+-r's by Verbatim on sale for $15, so I'm going to go buy a pack from there. I will let you know how that goes. Thanks for your help

I just bought the same 50 pack of Verbatim from Best Buy too - great deal. Now that you have those, you know that your problem isn't the media.

I'm not familiar with DVDxCopy and the log from it is not very informative. I would try it again with Nero and post the log. As Gwendolin says, Roxio is showing up in your Nero burn log even though you say it is not listed in your programs. Try running the Roxio zapper which will remove any remnants that may have been left behind. Here is a link:
http://www.microadvantage.net/downloads/zapper60.zip

Hopefully you are successful with Nero, but if you get the power calibration error it may be time for a new burner.

How big is the file? If it is Racing Stripes, then I will assume that it is larger than will fit on your Verbatim DVD's without compressing and getting rid of unwanted portions (previews, extras, FBI warnings, etc.) of the original movie. You can do this with Nero Recode. You just have to import the Video_TS files into it. If you do not have Nero Recode, you can do the same thing with a free program called DVD Shrink and burn with Nero. If you only have an ISO, you will need to download DVD Decrypter to burn it.

Here are some guides that may help:

Nero Recode

DVD Shrink

Here is another with a lot of good info:

I'm going thru the Nero Recode guide. I'm finished analyzing and encoding. But the guide is different from my version of Nero.

The first step to burn is to open up Nero smart start and click "Nero Burning Rom." that isn't listed under my application drop down list. So where to I go, I've tried all available options and can't find the one that brings me to this screen

If you don't have Nero Burning Rom you can burn it with Nero Recode - just change the destination in burn options from the harddrive to your DVD burner. It will then write it directly to the DVD instead of writing it to your harddrive first.

Congrats on Nero 7. Some things need to be adjusted to get it working good. First of all, Nero has a newer version of 7 (7.0.8.2)that has take care of some bugs with the original version that you are running. Here is a link to do this:

http://ww2.nero.com/nero7/enu/nero7-up.php

As for your latest burn log, this is what I can see:
Quote:
Physical memory : 639MB (654640kB)
Free physical memory: 60MB (61900kB)
Memory in use : 90 %
Burning DVD's is a very CPU and memory intesive process. You should not multitask while burning the DVD. You have plenty of RAM, but it is all being used by something or someone. You can free up some RAM by closing all other programs, logging off any other users and even disable programs running in the background (antivirus and antispyware programs, ect.) to free up more memory while burning if you have to.

Your burner has a burn strategy for the Verbatims, so we have eliminated Media as being the Issue.

Try the latest version of Nero 7 and try another burn with no other programs running and see if that makes any difference. Keep posting your log if it doesn't work, we will eventually figure it out.

ok, thanks. I'm in the process of updating the Nero software, my internet is being very slow, so its going to take a while to dl the update.

As for turning off my antivirus, I think there are programs that turn off all background apps, do you know of any good ones and where I can find them?

THanks

You shouldn't have to turn off any other programs. If your system is running slow and you have no memory for your burn, I am wondering if your computer might be infected with spyware. Do you run any anti-spyware programs?

Can You burn an audio cd using a program other than Nero? If you can't, your problem is most likely not Nero, but your burner.

Just checked the Best Buy ads and Sony is $14.99 for a 50 pack and Verbatim is $8.00 for a 25 pack. Headed that way......

@dogman5

The Sony +R 16X were from Taiwan, the 8x +Rs were MIJ. The -R 16X were made in Japan also. The MIJ had the octagonal retainer on top of the spindle. $14.99. Bought 2 X8s.

Well, at least we now know what the problem is. The bad news is you have to spend some more money, the good news is you get a new burner! Luckily they are not that expensive. I just replaced my I/O Magic with a BenQ 1655 Lightscribe and absolutely love it.
