In the event that some of you are as green as I was, I thought it might be useful to pass on this experience. When I first started archiving my DVDs I bought 100 Ritek Ridata 8X DVD-R Media White Inkjet Printable (Regular Printable) in Plastic Wrap. Almost every disc I burned has failed (some that are less than about 3.8 GB are re-rippable, which makes me think the problem has to do with the outside edge) within a few months. Since then I have switched to TY 8X discs, and they are rock-solid. I'm working on MAC OS, so my options (at least in respect to DVD ripping, etc.) are limited, and unless anyone has any hot tips, it looks like my early discs are toast (pun intended). Better late than never, I guess.
I've heard other horror stories about ritek DVD-R printables having playback issues over time. I don't think the non printables had the same problem. I quit using ritek dvd-r's long ago. Actually I quit using -r media all togather. Verbatim dvd+r's for me.
FYI: I had both printable and non-printable 8x DVD-R GO5's. Burnt great originally and scored above 90's with all scans. Now they zero out within 30 seconds of starting the scan process. That's just my expierience though. I've heard others that have had luck with them, but do a search on G05 across multiple forums and you'll see a lot of the same problems I had.
