You cannot get dual layer on dvd-r. Dvd-r is only single layer, you would need to purchase a dvd-ram drive to achieve 9.4gb on 1 side(I advise you not to). What i suggest is getting some ritek double SIDED media, the disc will be able to hold 4.7gb on each side.

Also, bin that dru-500 and get a real dvd writer like the pioneer A-05 like mine...........only joking.lol

hope this helps

I was just wondering if you knew why the general public cannot get single sided dual layer discs, because I have been looking around for them too.

Well I've done some research since yesterday and they are available, however they seem to be on back order every where I look. Hey Allin the website was great but I am in the US so I could not order from the site you suggested but thanks anyway:)

They aren't available, they don't exsist.
Commercial DVD's which are dual layer are pressed, not burned.
You cannot burn to two layers on one side of a disc (at present, and it would probably require new equipment if it does become available)

Anywhere you see offerring them is selling two sided discs and making you think they are dual layered single sided discs.

Hey Malum,

Thanks for the info. If that be the case I'm still interested in the two sided disks. I'd like to use one case instead of two when I have to split media between two disk. Do you know where I could get some good disk for a fair price? I currently use a sony dru-500ax.

I am in the UK and get all my stuff from the link given above.

I put two discs in a case designed for two discs (see storage section in link above) they are 13p each and much easier than trying to avoid fingerprinting a dual sided disc.

There are plenty of places to get double sided media. Try 9.4 GB Primedisc at cdrdvdrmedia or supermediastore
