Hi I have an ACER apire 3500 with the in built burner being Slimtype DVDRW SOSW-8335. The program I am using to decrypt is AnyDVD and I am burning with CloneDVD2. I have had this notebook since July 2005 and never had problems backing up my vast dvd collection. Out of the blue my dvd burner would only burn to 35% and then say 'bad media'.

Sounds easy but these 'bad medium'disks were my 100% successful mediums up until 3 months ago.

Have taken my notebook back to where I purchased it from and the techie checked it out saying the hardware and sofware for the burner were fine, he suggested the problem was a 'compatability' problem.

I tried uninstalling several programs and cleaned up my notebook heaps but still to no avail. Severe frustration gave me the initiative and drive to reformat my computer back to factory standards.

I have successfully done this and have installed the burning programs I was having success with, now my burner will successfully burn but only with a rare and exxy in price blank medium 'magmedia'.

Is there something else I can do to ressurect this devilish pain in the ass problem? Helpppppp

Mandy

What type of media do you use? Memorex? Maxell? These are horrible discs.

The best are Taiyo Yuden, Sony, and Verbatim DataLife.

Also what version of AnyDVD are you using. You must keep it updated.

I have tried SONY and says 'bad medium'

The one and only variety of blank + dvds I am having success with is called 'magmedia'.
Thats the only 'title' on the spindle.

My AnyDVD is not a purchased copy, I dont think i can update it .

mandy1972,
The reason it is saying bad medium is because there is no updated firmware for that burner. It is a OEM Lite-On and it was made for Acer. It needs to have an update so the burner will recog the new media. That said you might only have 2 choices: 1 is to replace the burner w/ a better one and the other is to get an external burner. The problem is not Lite-On's but is the the failure of Acer to write the firmware update for their burner. You might try cleaning the lens and that might help to a point but you also need to look and find a good burner. I suggest you get an external burner w/ enclosure.

I googled for you brand of blank media and came up w/ MAG Media. If I am not mistaken these disk as made in Dublin under the Mitsubishi name BUT IT IS NOT THE VERBATIM BRAND. Verbatim knows about this and they are 2 different companies. Your DVD's are really low quality but if that is all you can use w/ that burner then you might need to do what is suggested in the above paragraph
