First attempt - advice appreciated

Hope someone can advise.
I downloaded a DVD file which turned out to be an ISO and an MDS.
I found, and installed DVD Decrypter successfully and tried to burn the DVD but it says "There doesn't appear to be enough space on the disc to burn this image"
The ISO file is 7.7 Gb.
I realise this is way too big but thought the prog might do something to it.
The poster of the file must have intended it to be burnt to a DVD surely?
Is there anything I can do with this file which will end up with me with a DVD which will play on a normal DVD player?

One thing I should have mentioned is that the file is likely to be several episodes of a TV series.
Is there a way to open the file on the PC where size doesn't matter and then split it in some way?

This file is used by several different programs. It generally is found with an .ISO CD image file and is the equivalent of what a .CUE file is to a .BIN image. IsoBuster can interpret these files directly
You will require Alcohol 120% as the software app

Thanks for your help guys, but I've found out that this is one of three discs for the full series and at my download speed the electric to run the PC to get the other two files would cost more than buying the DVDs on Ebay, so I'll just write it off to experience and delete it.

If you haven't deleted it yet, you can load the ISO in a virtual drive created by software. There is the freeware app Daemon. Nero and some other apps have virtual drives as well. The software assigns a drive designation on your PC just like a physical drive. You load the ISO in the virtual drive and then use your DVD player software to view it just as you would a DVD in a physical drive.

You're welcome. I used to use Daemon quite a bit when I first started doing DVD backups. Later I got Nero, so no longer needed the freeware. Besides DVD movies in the ISO format, there are software ISO files that I've seen. Those play from the virtual drives as well. So, it's a handy piece of software to learn how to use.

Gwen mentioned the DVD Shrink. It will open ISO images and you can view portions of the files using the viewer in DVD Shrink. Under File on the toolbar select "Open Disc Image..." Shrink compresses files as well as edits in the Re-author section. That would be a lot of compression going to a DVD5 (4.7), so use Deep Analysis and check the Quality Settings. If you're looking for free, DVD Shrink can do the job. Or as I mentioned, there's the virtual drive and open with any player or editing software. If you need to do large compression jobs such as this one, check out Rebuilder. It's slower, but does a better job. http://www.dvd-rb.com/ and there is a Rebuilder section here at AD.
You mentioned having Nero, that has the Recode 2, if you have the full version. That compresses larger DVD files to fit a DVD5 as well.

Well, if you only have the Burning Rom and not the other apps, then you'd only be able to burn files already processed. By the way, you may need to check on updating your software.
