Hi there,I have an old Magic 3 chip and as long as i've had it has never booted PSX backups.(I have the suspicion its the S wire at fault, dont think its soldered right to the board). Also i have no soldering skills and the place i got it from like 5 years ago (Madeira Games) has closed down.

Im wondering if its possible to uninstall the modchip safely and install one of the 'Big 3', namedly Matrix Infinity Green Dot?

BTW:PS2 DVD and CD backups work perfectly on my TYG02's and Maxell CD-R's.

I'd like to play some of the 40 odd PSX game backups i have which i used to play on my old modded PSX SCPH 1001 which broke.

Over to you, what do you think? Any suggestions would be helpful.

Thanks in advance.

It's not recommended you attempt to do so if you're not an experienced solderer. Most pros charge $35+ for a quality install. It's not worth it to take a chance on butchering your PS2. Any of the big three chips will play your PSX multi disc/backup/import games perfectly, just like originals.

@m-singh

What version is your PS2? The Infinity is a great choice!

Thank you. If you just want a hassle free solution that's a little more legal in your neck of the woods, Swap Magic should work fine. I always prefer chips, but when there's legal issues, that obviously changes things. My FAQ has plenty of info regarding Swap Magic.
