Hello, I am wondering if there is a difference in letting Nero burn after Shrink is finished encoding by just putting the disc in, or should I cancel that and open Nero separately and create a new DVD-Video with the encoded files? I am using Verbatim 8x hub printables now and have tested them at 4x and 8x burns, I get much better results with 8x. Maximum is my only option in the DVD Shrink/Nero auto burn settings. Previously I had 16x non-printable Verbatim's and there was no 4x or 8x option (and those tested better) in the Shrink/Nero settings for the auto burn so I always opened Nero separately and just made a new DVD-Video. Now that I am using 8x and burning at 8x tests better, should I just put in a disc and let it do it's thing instead of me cancelling that and doing it through Nero on my own? Thanks!

Let the mothaf***er burn man =) I've been letting Nero do the work since day one right after DVD Shrink finishes, maximizes your productivity allowing you to backup another movie =)

Good point, thanks haza12d! Just for future reference, can you change that speed to anything other than maximum, like if I get discs later on that test better at half speed or something? It's in Shrink after you click backup under the Burn Settings tab, my only options are Maximum or 16x. But say in the future I get some 16x discs that test better at 8x, how do I change that so it burns at 8x for example, or can you not change it? Thanks

Hrmm...the speed setting I think depends on your firmware. Different firmware allows your drive to read various types of media, write at different speeds, etc. BTW what kind of drive do you have? And have you checked the latest firmware update for that drive?
Yeah you're gonna need to tune the burn setting down to 8x for some quality burns.

I have a crappy BTC drive right now that came in an I/O Magic box from Circuit City (didn't know anything when I bought it other than that it was cheap). I only have to worry about it for a few more days, my firmware is A089, I think there is a newer one but I'm not gonna mess with it because I will probably only use for like 3 or 4 more days. Tomorrow I am ordering a new drive, a BenQ. I am just trying to decide between the 1650 and the 1655. I see you can get the 1650 on Meritline for $36.00 + shipping, I am just researching and trying to see if there's any reason to go with the 1655 over the 1650. Any suggestion? Hopefully once I get a good drive then that speed problem in Shrink will be fixed.

Well I think the only major difference between the 1650 and the 1655 is that the 1655 is Lightscribe capable. That's what sold me on the 1655, sort of a just a preference anyway. You're looking at about another $20.00 more for the 1655 so if you don't really care for Lightscribe (I mean it's really cool, but the disks are expensive too $40.00 for a 30 pk.) then go with the 1650. I am very pleased with the performance of my BenQ drives, and you won't be disappointed with 'em. They're whisper quiet and the software (QSuite) that it comes with allows you to run disagnostics, Booktype and all that good stuff. So either one would be a good choice, depends on your wallet size if ya wanna shell out a little bit more.
Also, how many drives do you have set up on your system there? You might still want to update your firmware if you plan to keep your other drive to read/rip movies rather than have the newer drive do all the work...

Cool thanks, I will probably just go with the 1650. I don't need to lightscribe, I use printables and have an Epson R220 to print on my discs, I just need the BenQ to complete my setup with good discs, a good printer, and a good burner! Thanks man.
