I just purchased Office Depot DVD +R and tried to burn a DVD movie to it. The burner is not recognizing it was recordable media. How can I learn what DVD brands to use with my burner? The burner came with my new dell (1 year ago I think). It's a HL DT ST RW / DVD GCC424 IN. Help! I am relatively new to this world.

What speed are those Office Depot + blank discs?

OD media uses some pretty good manufacturers. Ritek in the 8x speed,and Ricohjpn-r03 in their +16x speed.

That doesn't look like a normal model#. We need the exact #. Dell uses many different drives: NEC/Philips and some others.

You may have a firmware issue,seeing as how your drive is over a year old. If you have those 16x ricohs,that firmware may not be programmed to burn them.

Use dvdidentifier/nero toolkit/or dvdinfopro to find:
1)MID code of those OD blanks.
2)Exact brand name and model # of your DVD-RW drive.
3)And the current firmware version.

Then we can tell you where you can find the latest firmware version for it.
