Ok well someone came over and made a CD that installed the memory card exploit and we had it working with the HD but he did not know how to FTP stuff through but told me about Winhiip or something like that and when I tried hooking my PS2 HD up to my computer and putting it back onto my PS2 it doesnt boot up the HD screen anymore so I think I have to reinstall the exploit but don't have the swap magic disc is there a way to do it without the swap magic discs.

Well if anyone could help me install the hard drive so it saves backed up games that would be great, I could also get the swap magic disc if that would help, if someone could help me please PM and we could talk on MSN or some other messenger so it would be faster.

Im not as advanced as many on this site so I do not do the FTP thing. I bought a product called HD advance off ebay for like $20. Its a program you can use to download games to your HDD. It takes like 15 minutes to download a game but its a cheap and easy way to get games on HDD.

Anyone know how I might be able to FTP games to HDL with WinME?
Stuck with this crappy OS right now and HDDump won't run for some reason, can I just use regular FTP?

if you have winhiip you dont need to ftp...just put the game in your drive, open winhiip, click on add image or somthing in that nature, choose your drive, and copy

simple as that

I meant for downloaded games though, I can't burn them, and the one prg that would detect me hooking the drive straight into my comp (as far as I know, HDA Dump) won't run. My FTP prg won't connect to my PS2 even if it's in "server mode".

I only use Winhiip now to transfer games to PS2 HDD. I use a USB to IDE transfer cable. This aves you opening your tower up to plug in your PS2 HDD into a spare IDE.
You can either transfer the data straight from your DVD ROM drive or via an iso file on your PC HDD. The tranfser of an ISO file for the average game takes about 4 minutes and with the adapter cable method you can leave your PS2 HDD jumpers set to master aswell.
The networking of PC to PS2 is the slowest way to transfer games so don't bother (Especially if you are also re-building/patching games and are'nt even sure if your re-build will work).
If you use HDadvance it takes about 15 to 25 mins.
I can't specifically help you with memory card exploit cause I have'nt done it. I use the proper HD advance software.

Thanks a lot guys, the first WinHiip I got didn't work (cause I run ME), but I looked around and found out that the new one didn't support ME. However 1.6.6 DOES. So I got that and I'm finally up and running. Again thanks for the help, that was driving me insane (as if I didn't already have enough reasons to hate working with ME!).

(PS: Can anyone tell me where I might be able to search for patches? And maybe if there is one for Final Fantasy: Dirge of Cerberus? Thanks)

You said you use a USB to IDE cable, does that mean that your HDD is in a External Enclosure? Or do you use the USB ports on the PS2 itself? Oh yeah and is it possible to use the Network Adapter via Ethernet to transfer from PC to PS2. I am trying to figure all this out before my HDD arrives this Friday. Thanx in advance.

Any advice on modes because my HD advance hasn't got modes but a list of about 8/9 settings which you either activate to yes or no? also, speed of copying, when i connect directly to my IDE cable, the speed is really slow, so ordered a usb/IDE adapter, fingers crossed..

Afterdawn ROCKS!!!!!

Average Rating out of 301 voters Write a Review » A huge dissapointment

Pros: Its relaitvely silent and fast....

Cons: About 2 weeks ago I recieved the HDD and found that it had only 127 GB capacity as opposed to the 300 that were adverstised. I sent the HDD back to be exchanged and the second one has the same problem... More »
! I hope newegg does something, I read a few other reviews of the product with the same complaints.

Did you find this review helpful? Good drive but the first one was DOA

Pros: Quiet but not silent, decent speed, decent price:)...

Cons: The first one was DOA. It sounded like a broken lawnmower and didn't show in the Device Manager. 5 year warranty would be nice, but 3 is all right. As... More »

Other Thoughts: Both the original delivery and the RMA process was fast and trouble free, thanks NewEgg. Since the drive doesn't really break any records and considering the first one was DOA I'm giving it only 3 stars. I own a few DiamondMax 10 drives and they seem to be reliable within reason.I said above, it's relatively quiet but the low freq. hum level is definitely higher than the Seagates I have. No loud clicking though. I'm not listing this as a "con" then. But if you're looking for a fast or silent drive, this wouldn't be my first choice. I need it for storage, it'll be mounted in a USB case.

Did you find this review helpful? Great Product

Pros: When I bought this HD along with an external enclosure, I really didn't know anything about making my own external HD. I was determined to put it together, and after receiving the items --really fast...
, I might add-- it only took me about an hour to figure out how to put the whole thing together. As far as the drive goes, I've put tons of info on it already, and it works great. Quiet.

Cons: Had to spend a little time learning about setting the jump drive, but once that was done there was no problems. Also had to learn where to go to formatt the drive, but a little 'net search made that ... More »

hey qahar,

a ps2 can only use 127 GB it might not be the hard drive... if u plug it up to your computer it should read it at like 285 or so if its a 300 gb hard drive after the format....

but the ps2 can only handle 127 so i suggest the 120 segate like i have or so...

depends on your set up, if you have a good chip like DMS4 Pro
it can handle HDD's larger than 127GB
