Upon returning home from taking my flip top to my brother's, I noticed the circular section with the white thing (that i had to take from the old ps2 top) fell out of the circular recess at the top of the flip top lid...I can still play burned games, if i take the circular thing and put it over the disc and let the magnets do their thing, but then i cannot close the flip top lid and now the ps2 is really loud...is there any way i can fix this? I was thinking glue, but i'm not sure if the whole circular thing needs to spin or not, and glue wouldn't allow that...if my digital camera wouldn't have broken i'd send pics...
You should be able to put the "white thing" back into the recess of the lid. The flip top I purchased did not come with the "white thing" installed. I had to remove it from the parts removed from my ps2 and install it myself into the recess of the flip top. Unless the tabs holding the "thing" in place have somehow broken off, you should be able to install it yourself. It takes a bit of force, but the 'thing' is a little flexible, so you shouldn't have to worry about breaking it.
It's small, but what's circled is what came off. It still plays if i place the dislocated piece on top of the cd/dvd and leave the flip top open enough so the top of the flip top (the recess the piece originally goes into) does not touch what's spinning.
I looked at your pic again... It came pretty low resolution so it was kind of difficult to see what the problem was. Anyhow, it appears as the part of the fliptop lid that holds the spindle 'white thing' has seperated from the lid itself, correct? On my flip top, that part is held in place with two small screws. You may be able to glue it back into place or maybe it's time to purchase a new flip top. In the mean time, you can always just use the white thing itself removed from the flip top. Leave the lid open, or if you remove the part that holds the whit thing in the lid, then you can close the lid.
When I first got my flip top I had some trouble getting things aligned up properly so that's what I did. I just used the white thing and either left the lid open or removed the part so I could close the lid. I had to loosen some screws on the case a bit in order to get the lid algned properly. Even now it still sometimes vibrates a bit and I end up having to open/close it a bit to get things aligned and not vibrating.
Simply put, only the white thing needs to spin. It can be used by itself without being placed into the recess of the lid. If you can re-attach the part that hold the white thing to the lid somehow that should solve your problem, as long as the white thing itself remains free to spin.
okay, i will try attaching the whole black thing to the top, since the white thing is the only thing that needs to spin...I wasn't sure, because when I try to "hold" the black thing in place and spin the disc, it doesn't seem to spin as easily...i thought maybe somehow the black thing holding the white thing (real technical language) spun within the recess in the flip top lid...
