V7 Disk wont spin....laser seems to work!

I have a v7 ps2. Everything works fine EXCEPT the disk wont spin. Popped the top off the cd tray and turned unit on, laser moves back and forth as it should, laser emits red beam, but disk wont spin. Any ideas on what I might try first??

Did you just install a new lid or adjust the PS2 in any way before this started happening?

took it apart to put in a dms4 lite chip a few weeks ago, seems I didnt get the controller port cable in all the way, after a couple weeks the port stopped working, took it apart to reset the ribbin cable, now port works but the disk wont spin.
