hi guys, I'm new to this forum so work with me :)
I've had this sony dw-d26a DVD burner for about a year now. I was using HP DVD-R 8X media and burned many many backups of my DVD's etc without a problem... I recently purchased Verbatim DVD-R 16X media and that was also working well, but not for long... just recently I tried burning 3 or 4 movies and none of them would burn faster then 2X... I tried changing burn speed settings to 8X 12X and 16X but still wouldnt go faster then 2X... I receive no burn errors or anything, its just this extremely slow speed... Any ideas about possible problems? I havent installed any new software (I've been using DVD decrypter, shrink 3.2, and nero 7 ultra successfully for a while)

If its a firmware problem, I tried looking for updates and found none... my current version is JYS1... purchased drive from NEWEGG approx 1 year ago... please help!! Thanks

I dont want to buy different media unless i have to because I have 100 of these verbatim 16X DVD-Rs!

According to RPC1, you are a little behind with your firmware, have a look: http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_result.php?kaj=1&isces

thanks man i appreciate ur response and I will update my firmware shortly... however I seem to have answered my own question so if anyone else has a similar noobie problem do what i did! :)

so anyway, for some reason one day my computer decided to change my DMA settings to PIO... and I could not get it to recognize DMA even though it was on auto detect... I uninstalled secondary IDE and rebooted...

now its on UDMA2 and my sony DVD burner works like a charm again!!
