so recently i burned new games, the problem is that it shows me RED screen and repeatly and sometimes after that the game might start(and it doesnt say "this disc is not PS2 format") whne it works it skips alot of scenes when i play my new game "Grandia 3". I've tried my disc with my friend's modded PS2, and everything loads fine and it doesnt skip scenes.
so could it be my mod chip or my laser
anotehr question: i use my 8GB harddrive to play other games, does this require modchip in the first place?
i thought it was the disc but i bought 2 brands Ridata, SmartBuy(Pordisc) DVD-Rs all made in Taiwan, and both turn out to have problem with my PS2, and works with my friend PS2, unfortunately my place doesnt sell Made in Japan DVD-Rs. Theres Mitsui DVD-R 2x they cost 3 dollar each, not sure if i should try one.
forgot what was my PS2's mod chip, i got last year, its version 10, whilst my friends version 4 T.T(still running good after 3 years).
i tried to search but too many thread so i couldnt find any info
It is real hard to tell. You could try adjusting and cleaning the laser. but i would only try the adjusting part if you start to have problems with a lot of games, including originals.
If they play fine on your friends then you know the burn is good, may just be that your PS2 laser will not read those brand of discs as good. I would not buy any 2X speed DVD's, those are way too slow.
Go with a good quality 8X DVD-R and burn them at 4X
if whom ever modded your V10 didn't install a Romeo mod to drop the 12v drive voltage on the lens focus coils that is the most likely problem, it's VERY common problem with V9/V10 consoles often refereed to in the modding industry as 'version 9 syndrome'
so i used my Mitsui DVD-R 2x, everything seem to be fine, if its the problem KC said, how do i fix it, i cant afford another 50-100 to get it fix or watever hehe
what he is talking about is a laser fix. They should be installed on any PS2 V9 and up, just to be safe, when you get a mod chip installed.
If it is not, and your laser gets burnt out then replacing the laser is the only fix there is. Usually a mod like that costs about $10 max plus someone to install it.
But if all your originals still play fine then the laser is just fine, and either cleaning it or adjusting it would be the first steps in fixing most disc read errors.
The skipping audio/video and such can also be due to bad quality media or getting a bad burn due to out of date firmware on your burner.
so i reburn the game (grandia 3) this time it doesnt skip the scene at start but freezes after it finished, both of the copies works perfectly fine with my friend's PS2.
btw my modchip says TOXIC at the Playstation 2 screen before game.
and about cleaning the laser.. i might screw it up, and i dont have all teh tools.
Doesn't sound anything like the V9 syndrome to me. If the V9 syndrome happens you will get a dead PS2 altogether and not just disc reading issues. Its either a weak laser or a dirty one or both. Cleaning it could show a great improvement.
thanks for all teh replies guys, so i've finally had the guts to open up my PS2 and all i did was cleaning the lens that is perpendicular to the tray with Alcohol and Q-tip, and now everything's working smoothly, no more red screen and skip scenes.
