Hi,

I just recently bought some DVD's as a present for my wife. I've just realised they are NTSC format and I am unable to cancel the order as they are now in transit to me.

1. Will NTSC play in the UK as standard?

2. If not how can I convert them knowing that they will definitely play on any dvd player? The reason I ask this question is that I've read quite a few threads for NTSC to PAL conversion (which is obviously opposite to what I want to do) and realised that with "1 click conversion solutions" there are no guarantees on quality or playability. I don't want to give my wife this BIG present and then let her down of it doesn't work.

Please help...desperate.

Thanks in advance.

It just depends on if your DVD Player suports both NTSC and PAL. I duno how or if you would have problems playing an NTSC DVD on a PAL player. I have a DVD player that will play both PAL or NTSC. But I do know 1 of them only plays NTSC and I have to convert PAL to NTSC if I wanna play it on the other DVD player.

Cheers Larry for your speedy reply. I've just found the following thread concerning my initial question. But, I'll keep an open mind until somebody confirms this.

You might have a problem with the region code. It might not play on your DVD player. If this is the case then you can do a backup of the DVD and make it region free without having to convert it to PAL. It will just take out the region code so your player can play it. Thats if your DVD player is NTSC compatible.

But as for being able to play the NTSC on a PAL system it all depends on if your hardware is capible of doing it.
