I have a stand alone Lite-on burner. I copied a camcorder tape to dvd. I finalized it, and tested it in my ps2, and 2 other standerd dvd players and it played. I then wanted to actually edit the file. I put it in my HP laptop and it spins the disc but cant seem to read anything. I explore the drive and it shows it is empty. I try to open it in Shrink and it says no disc. I know I copied it and finalized correctly or it wouldnt have played in the stand alones. My question is does stand alone burners record in a format unreconizable to PC dvd players, or do I need something special to read them.

The LiteOn set top recorders record DVD+/-VR and some (not many) players may have trouble reading them ...

Many of the LiteOn units are allright, meaning they will burn to a + or - disk
If you are using a + disk the HP unit may not recognize such a disk.

The HP is likely a good unit but the DVD/CD rom is likely made by a third party and doesn't like or want a + disk

Check the disk and the DVD unit for Compatibility
