hiya all,
i've been using dvd2one for a long time and had no problems with any films until i tried an asian/bollywood movie (approx 3hrs). ripped as usually(smart ripper = 6.5gbs) compressed it using dvd2one and burned via nero on traxdata 4x and datawrite 1x final result = poor quality. i.e. i open the folder contain the file compressed by dvd2one and played then via power dvd the copression resulted into poor quality output i.e. dvd2one cannot compress movies over 2.5hrs. any suggestions. thanx

Yes , if you are that unimpressed with quality I'd suggest splitting to 2 discs then.

I have compress movies that are 7 gig with DVD2One and I have no problem...they look great. The problem sometimes is that the quality to begin with suck, and then you try to compress that... then it just gets worst.

Are you keeping the menu's in there or doing movie only? I would suggest doing movie only if the quality is getting bad by keeping the menus. /shrug

There are many ways to split dvd to 2 blanks. Many are free if you dont mind spending several hours to do it. There are guides here as well as many other fourms to walk you through it. If you just want a true same quality backup to 2 disks and dont want to spend several hours doing it then dvdxcopy is the way to go.

I use DVDXcopy. It splits movies automatically for you. VERY easy to use.

have bought dvd2one, dvdxcopy, dvdxcopyxpress, and each has its uses. I find that most movies i make with dvddycrypter, dvd2one, nero. have done long, and short movies, all look great. I only backup the movie, nothing else. if you do the whole disk, then you need dvdxcopy, which splits into 2 disks.

What you've got to remember is that normally when you're checking out the quality of a compressed DVD rip on your PC, you're sitting less than a foot from the monitor.
When you're actually watching DVD's in full - chances are you're sitting much further away from the screen, and as such I've found that any loss of quality becomes much less visible.
In any case - I've found that even in full disc mode, the longest DVD's I own (LOTR and Casino) come out really well after DVD2One has compressed them down to 4.36Gb. Once you strip out foreign language tracks, subtitles, menus etc - you're laughing.

I used to use that exact combination but Smartripper let me down 2-3 times out of 75+ back up's.
American Werewolf In London
Long Good Friday
Bottom (Best of)
DVD Decrypter does 'Ignore Read Errors' , whereas Smartripper doesn't.
All in all , Decrypter & Smartripper are free..so have both
Peace
