I am new also, but from what I have read, and have done myself, you will need software that will convert the mpeg file to a vcd or svcd. Nero, which is what I use has the vcd software and converts the file. I have found that the vcd video is not as sharp as the avi file. Also, if doing it this way, you will not need ablank dvd but a regular cd-r will work. Divx will compress the file and you will find that using the blank dvd will just give you a lot of blank space when your done.

Have a float around our DVD for newbies section for threads on this subject, but TMPGEnc, I'm afraid, is what is ebst (IMHO) for doing this. You probably need to download it again then re install it, as i can't say why it is not working. Then you just load up your avi and select the VCD settings and click start. It could take 5 hours or so ;-)

Paul.

PS : and yes, there is little point in putting it on a DVD, as a CD should suffice, although you will have to use 2 CDRs probably. The resulting quality will be reduced, of course, because you are re encoding the movie from one format to another. There is no way round this.

I'm back...
...can't you smell the fear?
