Hi all,
I just bought an Aopen 2412 Pro dvdburner ( + ) and had to spent days first to understand all the technicalities on the web on how to rip, shrink and burn your own dvd's.
Now i followed all the different guides but neither my dvd+r or rw will play on my Panasonic RV32 standalone player, but they both run perfect on my lite-on pc dvd-player.
My Panasonic says NO DISC, since it's all to technical for me i really wouldn't know if i ripped, shrinked or burnt the wrong way.
What I did :
1.Used Smartripper to rip a 5,41GB DvD ( dvd-5 or 9 ???? couldn't find which it is )
2. Used DvDshrink103 to make it 3,65 GB, removed certain audio and subtitles
3. Burnt the DvDR in Nero , using udf 1.2 in Nero and DvD-Rom
4. Burnt the DvDRW in Nero but than with DvD-Video through the wizard.
5. Burnt a DvD+R with Pinnacle Instant Copy
Used another guide where u keep holding the 2 or 3 number on your remote for bit something, but nothing happened.
Anyway after days of looking, reading , trying i really don't know what's wrong, hopefully someone knows.

Hi, I have this Panasonic RV 32, a Sony DRU500-A
firmware (1.0g) DVD writer, Windows 2000 Professional, Pentium IV 2.4GHz, Maxtor 80GB ATA HD.
My experience is the following:
The player is unable to play DVD+RW due to the bitsetting incompatibility.
The player works with any DVD-R or DVD-RW if you built an external image (with Cujo 1.6 SE software for example) and then burn it with nero as an external image. PAY ATTENTION ! Nero 5.5.10.15 makes coaster with this procedure, use 5.5.10.7 or below !!!
The big problem I have with this player is that is VERY SENSITIVE TO THE MEDIA !!!
I mean, you may be able to see correctly a movie for the first 40 mins but then it begins with pixelization and skipping and choppy video.
I discovered that it depends on 2 factors:
1. the media
2. the label
DO NOT LABEL ANY DVD
About the media:
1. Verbatim -R -RW excellent but expensive
2. SKC -R -RW work well
3. Fuji -R : pixelization & skips
4. That's Write -R : pixelization & skips
5. Princo -R: very cheap but "seem" to work well !
In conclusion: I would have been more happy if with 200$ I would have a more "sensitive" DVD player

I've seen this compability list dozens of times already thanks, I read all the posts and still have no clue, half of the people have no problem with my player, not even with RW's, but me, phoe, been trying and trying.

Philips
TDK
A-Open ( came with the burner )

Been looking for it, can't find the link anymore, Panasonic, Apple, Pioneer and a few others are backing up the DVD-R/Rw standard.

I burn with a Pioneer DVR DVD-RW a04/104
Play on a Sony DVP-NS 305 (plays everything I ever put in it)
I looked at the A Open spec on a site just now & can see NO obvious reasons why you are having these playback problems but DVD back up in general is a trial & error basis depending on what burner & player you/they are using.

DVD-R is WAY more supported.
This was a deciding factor when I purchased the Pioneer 104...DVD+R (RW) has come on a little since then

Yeah ben there as well, sometimes you just don't know anymore, i do read some people make an image and than burn that image, what's the benefit ?
I just use dvdschrink and then brun the video_ts files.
Btw, thanks for your extremely fast replies.

The one difference between -R and +R that might be the deciding factor; DVD VCR's use the -R format. And I think that those of us who have an understanding of computers and still have some issues with DVD burning will see that a DVD burner that works just like a VCR will become a very popular product.

You could try ISO Mode Cleese ...that's the image copy method you was reffering to.
I should imagine DVD Decrypter would be good for that although it does write I'd be tempted to use Nero to burn ISO image

Would that make any difference than ??? Instead of burning the video-ts files, burning an Image ?
I read about some special progs who make dvd images any suggestions, besides Nero than ?
I'm also wondering if it would make a difference if i burn the DVD in Nero with 1,5 udf instead of 1,2 because when you look at the dvd+.org website it says RW is no problem for this player.

It's worth a try.
DVD Decrypter supports read & write of ISO I believe (untried by me but I know it has that option)
Nero will burn and ISO (again untried by me)
Prassi Prismo (I had this bundled w/ my burner but never got it to work properly & gave up many moons ago BUT have heard from others that it does ISO Ok)

Hehe, solved the problem partially and just enjoyed my first DVD.
Found it on the Aopen website, before burning a DVD+R i need to check the change book type option, with an already burned RW i can load the dvd into Nero and than Change the Book type into DVD-Rom, which i need.
So finally after one week of misery the problem is solved, no I hope by checking the option a +R will work as well, than again, changing the RW disk was no problem but now i wouldn't know what to select in Nero when burning a +R, DVD-Video, DVD-Rom,....

Happy to know u fix the problem.
I am now also using Panasonic RV-32.
My RV-32 also CANNOT play the DVD+RW or DVR+R !
I just buy NEC ND-1100A, burn the DVD+, +RW using nero.
DVD+ web site said that nero can set the book type

But I cannot find the book type setting in my nero software 5.5.10.15
Where can you set the book type ?

Hi,
Well it's very easy to find ( took me a while ), when you open Nero, go to the DVD Section, than choose DVD-ROM (ISO) and on your right you'll see al the tabs, Info, Burn,..., Click on the brun tab and underneath that screen you'll see
BOOK TYPE DVD-ROM, the option can be checked and unchecked, make sure you check or mark it ( don't know the english word ) and don't mind the other settings, than select new, and insert or drag your Video-ts folder and open the cd-write dialog and check again ro be certain that the book type option is marked.
That's all, all my +R en +RW play without a problem now on the Panasonic.

With an already burned +RW, you can load it into Nero, select Medium Info and push the button CHANGE BOOK TYPE, a few seconds later you're already burned RW will be playable now.

I cannot find the "book tpye" setting in my nero.
There is nothing in the "burn" tab, nothing under "Do a virus check before burning" !
May be the software disable this setting after knowing that my DVD writer is ND-1100A !
I will continue search the web or wait until NEC or Nero give me a fix.
Anyway, thanks a lot and enjoy your DVD with your DVD player.

Very strange becasue it's really there, no kiddin', when u start up Nero and close the wizard and than select new u should see the tabs and possibilites without a doubt.

I'm sure if you mess about long enough with Nero you'll find it (taking it that it is a FULL version of Nero benson ?)
