I'm having a problem with my v5 PS2, I recently cleaned the laser and now the PS2 does not read any type of disk. I put the disk in and it says reading disk but then does nothing. I've also tried turning the white cog all the way round but still does not help.

well it could be that you used something that left fibers on the laser lens when you cleaned it, you may want to try using a lint free cloth and just wiping it down again.

and if you adjusted the laser angle (the white cog) i hope that you took a pen and market it's original position so that you could put it back. If not you could be in a real bad position, as it is suppose to be turned one click at a time, and tested to see if it works after each click. If you didn't mark it then thee is not way to tell where the original position is.

Well now I have taken the PS2 apart and removed the laser and I have noticed that in the ribbon cable attached to the bottom of the laser that there is a very small tear in the cable. Would this explain the laser not reading the disc.

just one thing... i had this error while trying to read "The Godfather" well i didnt have a tear, but i had a disk read error. i cleaned the laser, adjusted it and everything but it didnt work. The funny thing: my friend who had just about every problem had a solution lol. All you have to do is sort of push the disk tray upwards when u start your ps2. with your finger just push it up and click on browser or w/e and then it should read it. IDK if it will work but its worth a try.
