I have a modded V9 and the modder that installed it told me that 1 of the coils was a little weak and that it would work for awhile, well I have to install my games to the HDD so they play smoothly, no problem, but here in the last week or so I want to play my games online with just the dvd running not the HDD. It takes it twice as long to load screens and skips some on the in game music. Si, to me the laser is junk, I have tryed to clean it and have used 4 different kinds of media and different ways to burn of course, same problems. Can anyone tell me where to get a laser for this system cheap? It is the US Version console V9 and is there a difference in the lasers, like the best for my version and any install videos or docs to help me with 1. Thanks again guys for your help!

there are different lasers depending on your version.
I would also get a laser fix installed when you get the laser done, especially with a chip.
you can get them all over the net, just search for "PS2 laser"
or "PS2 repair" and you will find tons of sites that sell them.
