I was wondering if it is possible to use the HDD from my TIVO for my PC or maybe my PS2. Would I need to reformat the HDD or delete all the current files I have on the HDD. Would deleting them from the Directv menu do it or would I need to do something else? Any help will be appreciated. Thanx in advance.

I don't know what type of HDD the TIVo uses but if you put it into a P.C or a PS2 it will have to be re-formated and partitioned by the P.C or PS2 software. This will completely blank the drive and enable it to be used by your specific chosen equipment. The most common generic HDD used for PS2 is a Maxtor of 40 gig upwards but it must be an IDE type (not SATA) and must phyiscally fit the PS2 network adaptor. (seperate purchase £20).
I could add more but I'm not sure what experiances and equipment you already have!!

PC Specs: CPU-C2D E8400, M/B-P5N-E SLI, RAM 4Gig OCZ Platinum rev2 ,VGA- Nvidia 8800GT 512MB, HDD- Hitachi Deskstar SATAII 1TB, 250Gig Maxtor IDE HDD.

Thanx Byngo.

Yeah the HDD from my tivo is an IDE 40GB Maxtor, but I changed my mind and I am gonna leave it intact.... for now. Yeah I found a 200Gb Maxtor IDE on Ebay for $50. I should recieve it sometime this week. I am getting me a network adapter today. My cousin is gonna let me have his. He's so cool. But Byngo I heard I could use either HDAdvance 3.0 or HDLoader to partition the drive, Which do you prefer? I was told by ToxicFish and malcdogg to use HDLoader the patched version by means of exploit. Ok now this where I get lost. I read a couple of tutorials regarding HDLoader and using it via exploit but I became completely lost because I still can't find any reason why it is so much better than just using either HDAdvance 3.0 or HDLoader the patched version by themselves. I really don't get what exploit means or does. If you can answer any of these questions your help will be praised. LoL. Thanx in advance.

haha its redudant really but you are using HDAdvance to then run HDLoader

they are essentially the SAME PROGRAMS, hdadvance is one of those cool discs you can use to swap to other discs, other "cool" discs are Gamesharks and Armax's..

HDLoader, the patched version, can be run off a memory card, which is what you will ultimately be doing.

THe SIMPLE process is gathering the proper .elf files, they should be in your tutorials, especially the FTP one (execftps.elf), moving that to the harddrive (initially the hdd has to be hooked up to your computer so you can move the first FTP program) - MAKE SURE THE FTP PROGRAM IS CONFIGURED TO YOUR NETWORK, if you run DHCP you should be okay

THEN load hdadvance in the disc tray, from there you can select the FTP program, now thats running.

BACK ON YOUR PC - FTP into the ps2 and move OTHER ELF FILES to the MEMORY CARD , you cannot access the hdd contents from the ftp, but you can the memory card.

so u want to load all the right psboot elfs and whatever else you please, lol, - but dont take up significant space on it kuz u >might< want to actually save game data on it too!

in this process you have to make sure you did your title.db information for the ps1 game you want to boot off of. This will be your magic disc, read your tutorials about title.db

then you are done.

restart the playstation with the mem card in slot 1 and the ps1 game in the disc tray and it should skip all the garbage and go straight to your harddrive, its really sexy actually.

forGET the swap magic and hdloader!!! if you want convenience and have it 100% working, get a modchip.

LoL. Thanx a lot rdxtreme. I have a problem tho' I do not own a single copy of any PS1 game. Is there any other way. Would it be easier just to get a USB enclosure for the HDD so that I can use the USB to transfer from my PC to PS2? Thanx in advance.

Thanx for the info. rdxtreme. But I think I might have found an easier way to transfer games from my PC to the PS2 HDD. It's called a USB to IDE cable adapter. It connects directly to the HDD and allows you to connect to the PC via USB. And if you're wondering where the HDD is gonna get it's power supply, well it also comes with a power adapter that connects directly to the HDD also. So I think I am gonna invest in this and see how it works out. But in the meantime untill I do get an USB to IDE Cable Adapter, I'm just gonna connect the HDD into my PC. But thanx for the info. Peace.

I use a usb to IDE adaptor cable, and its great.
Be very careful going inside your case and using the slave connector. Remeber to turn off the machine first and dont spike your m/board with static. Also change hdd jumpers to slave. (you can leave them as master when you go via usb adapter)
Rgarding software, your gonna find it much simpler to stick with a pucka version of HD Advance.
ALso HDA 3.0 will play any DVD9 games BUT>>you will have to transfer those to the HDD via your PC.
Enjoy

Cool shit man thanx for the advice. Yeah I read on the HDAdvance site on how to transfer DVD9 games. But hey Bingo...LoL, Just Kidding, Byngo, do you know anything about the HDLoader patched version. I D/L an .iso from PS2hd.com for HDLOader_DVD_07C. It's supposed be better than HDAdvance by means of supporting more games. But I'm not too sure. If you got any advice you can lend I'd appreciated it dude. Thanx in advance.

hahaha unconfirmed.... maybe, i have so many sites listing compatibility.... i use hdloader but definitely go to hdadvance'd compatibility forums and www.ps2hdd.com (or whatever it is)to find out if a game works

running the program off a memory stick is cooler than using hdadvance 3.0

rdxtreme

Dude you're still just trying to get me to use the Memory Card Exploit. LoL, Just Kidding. You know, I would but I'm a simple man and don't like to hassle with stuff and plus I can't afford to be buying DVD-R's or CD-R's because I couldn't figure it out the first time around. That would just make me blow steam out my ears. LoL. Well I read that the patched version of HDLoader is like a updated kinda thing, where they continue to add more game compatibility to HDLoader when they figure out to play them. But don't take my word for it. If you know what it is exactly then feel free to call me an idiot. But in your head not out loud, cuz then you'll force me to rip your face by seperating your lowerjaw and upper jaw riiping them apart, like Kong. Anywayz any info. will be greatly appreciated. Thanx in advance.

If you want to know more about the patched version of HDL this http://www.ps2newz.net/forums/showthread.php?t=27640 is the link to the patches home thread. If you read through that thread you'll find out all about it.

Since it seems that you have a retail HDA disk, if you ever decide to install the exploit, i'll add a couple of links to tutorials that *should* help you do that via your retail HDA disk.
