Hi i'm new to this website. I was referred by a friend. I wonder if there is another tool i can use to find the quality of a burned dvd besides dvdinfo and nero cd/dvd speed test.

welcome to AD~ :)
depends what kind of burner you currently are using...if it's a liteon, then there is K-probe you can use...if using a plextor, there are the Plextools..etc...
need more info, but you mentioned the "big 2" already in terms of disc quality/scanning utilities~ :)

hi,
i have a pioneer dvr-109 as well, lo and behold~ :) however, i can tell you RIGHT NOW that pioneer drives are some of THE MOST INCONSISTENT/UNRELIABLE drives to do disc quality scanning on...i've scanned using my pioneer on the SAME DISC at diff. times of the day or right after each other and BAM..completely different quality scores~ :)
i would not put too much weight on whatever scores (good or bad) that you get using the pioneer drive...i purchased the full version of dvdinfopro a long time ago, so there is not much more i can suggest to you with that particular drive...if you want MORE ACCURATE scores, i would def. suggest a liteon or benq drive for scanning purposes~ :) they are also good quality burners as well~ namely the Benq~

@bui
getting a benq is only a suggestion from me assuming your budget allows it, don't get me wrong, my pioneer is one of my most stable, fastest, best drives that i own; however, it falls short in the scanning dept., that's all~ :)
burning with it (pioneer dvr-109) is great, especially in the DVD-R format, it loves TY (taiyo yuden) media, and regards to the Benq...if you ARE going to get one, get either the benq 1650 or the benq 1655 (lightscribe capable)...do NOT get the Dq60 with dvd-ram capabilities...my close friend got one since he didn't want to wait for the benq 1650 came out here in the U.S., he totally regrets it now...it's not a good burner to say the least~ :)
here is a very good price on the Benq 1650, i paid a LOT more for mine last month to be one of the first to have it in the U.S.~ i don't regret my purchase, but it's much cheaper now...maybe i should have waited too hehe...

seems to have gone out of stock recently, it was in stock just a few days ago last i checked...you can wait or here is another place that has a decent price, it's a few dollars more once you add shipping, but it's close in terms of pricing and it's IN STOCK...

hi bui,
yes, the dvr-109 pioneer likes the MCC003 coded 8x DVD+R Verbatims as well...i'm just making a general statement in letting you know that the pioneer burns DVD-R format VERY WELL, that's not to say that the DVD+R format burns are bad...they are pretty darn good too~ :)
i'm not trying to scare you off of what the dvr-109 can do, it's a terrific burner and one of my favorites; just bringing to light that it is a very poor "scanning/disc quality" drive...you should be just fine with the 8x DVD+R Verbs~ :) if compatibility is an issue for you, once you feel confident, you might want to consider cross-flashing the dvr-109 with the buffalo firmware to allow booktying on that particular drive...but, bear in mind, you need to be comfortable in doing this as it voids your warranty...juss something to consider for the future...
burn on my friend, let me know if you have any more concerns or questions, if your backups are working well for you with no pixellation/skipping/problems, keep using good media such as the Verbs you are currently using and Taiyo Yuden later...but, if you are having some issues, let me know and perhaps we can find a way to get you to a point of being satisfied...have a good one~
