TV vs. Pro Video Monitor

I am low on cash now and cannot afford a pro monitor, so meanwhile I thought I'd use a regular TV as an external monitor.

Can someone please explain to me the major differences between a "regular" TV and a pro monitor? What are the strenghts of a pro monitor? What are the flaws of the TV set?
