I have been burning movies for well over a year. Last time I had problems I realized I needed ANYDVD so I got it and my last 6 movies burned fine. Friday I burned King Kong, Memories of a Geisha and both of them cannot be read by my DVD player. I thought maybe it was the DVD's themselves but I tried the same brand DVD that I just burned another movie on a few days earlier and it worked fine in the same DVD player these two will not read on?
If I play King Kong or Memories of a Geisha on my wife's computer, they work fine. If I grab a cheapy DVD player the kids use, King Kong works but not Memories of a Geisha! Weird. I thought I had it under control having ANYDVD and all was going fine--now this!
I have a Dell 2400 Dimension, 1.2 GHZ processor, 512 Ram with a Plextor DVD burner! I also do not do anything else on the computer while these are decrypting or burning! I use DVD+R and always have for the Plextor burner!
AnyDVD has nothing to do with the playability. AnyDVD removes all the encryptions for you so that you can copy it. That's it (even though that is extremely huge and it's probably the best program we have).
Anyway, if you have a cheap DVD player, that's probably your first mistake. Because regardless if you're using quality media (TY, Verbs etc.), that POS player will probably not recognize it. The media you're using is probably your second mistake.
The compatability is probably your third mistake. What does your player recognize? + or -? Make sure they're compatible with each other.
Your computer specs seem fine so the problem probably lies in everything above. It is weird that certain discs will play and others won't but if you adhere to all the suggestions, you'll have consistent playback.

Sometimes it's the firmware. Some standalone players have firmware upgrades. Check the manufacturer website. When a DVD plays on one drive and not another, you are having compatibility issues as Mr Pink pointed out (that is as long as the drives are in good working condition).
OK--let me throw a curve into this--I have always used the same media and my player is a $600 dollar Zenith. I just burned 4 movies last week, same player, same media, same everything and the way I burned was the same--it worked then, now today, all 3 movies I try to burn are not recognized in 2 players and only one in my wife's computer-weird!
If its cheap media there can be Inconsistency in the DVD's. You might have 20 work perfect in a row but then you could have the next 5 or 10 have flaws in the media.
I have 1 cheap DVD player and 2 DVD players that are close to $300. I used to use media at wal-mart cause of course I liked the price of it (big mistake).
The cheap $60 DVD player would play anything I threw at it using the cheap media. The DVD players I paid high price on where Inconsistent when it came to using the cheap media. Sometimes they would play fine, sometimes they would pixelate and skip, and sometimes they wouldnt play at all. This is using the same media I always used and using the same method backing them up.
I finaly got tired of it and searched online and found some excelent media TY's(TYGO2) and ordered them. 200 pack for $55. They where only $10 more then what i would have paid at walmart for a 200 pack. Started using them and every single DVD player will play them without a problem. Will never ever go back to cheap media. Well worth the extra price to have media that will work for all my players and perform consistently.
I think in most casses with high priced DVD players the reason they have trouble reading chap media is because they are effected more by the cheap media. It can pick up the DRE's easier on the media.
OK--that is the only thing I have left to try (better media)--I have tried Verbatim and Imation. Both King Kong and Geisha were unreadable in my $600 Zenith player and my portable DVD player. King Kong played in my $30.00 player and my wifes laptop (brand new Dell) but not Geisha in all 4 players. Then I tried burning Wallace and Gromit for the kids. Wouldn't play in the DVD portable or the Zenith. This gets confusing!
