Help with Canopus video conversion

I am a beginner at Canopus video conversion. I downloaded WinDVD to capture files to .AVI format. The played video on my camcorder is visible on my screen but is hazy and jumps continuously (the original is not like this). Please tell me what I need to do to correct this. Should I also be able to hear the video on the computer?? Thanks for the help.
