Hi guys, I'm a noob here but I've been using DVD Shrink Version 3.2.0.15 to backup my DVDs for a little while now with great success. I've found 2 problematic DVDs however: Harold and Kumar Go To White Castle and Kung Fu Hustle. I've tried two different copies of each DVD, getting the same results both times:

Harold and Kumar - The DVD gets 99% of the way through the initial analysis and freezes DVD Shrink and then it displays a "Data Error (cyclic redundancy check)" message.

Kung Fu Hustle - Does the same thing, but only gets about 8% the initial analysis.

Any ideas? Thanks!

Possible causes for CRC error:

The DVD you are trying to backup may be dirty, physically damaged (scratches) or badly authored. These are the most common reason that you get this error code - the DVD can't be read by your DVD reader/burner. The other possible cause for this error code is and more than likely the problem:

The DVD you are trying to backup is protected by the Sony ARccOS or Microvision Ripguard copy protection system. DVD Shrink can't handle this protection on it's own so it's going to need a little help.

Try ripping the DVD to your HDD using a free ripper/decrypter called DVDFab decrypter, you can get it here;
http://209.172.35.173/download/DVDFabDecrypter29.exe

Here's a guide on how to use DVDFab if needed;
http://www.dvdshrink.info/dvdfab_decrypter.php

Once DVDFab is done open the files created with DVD shrink and process as usual (in shrink use the open files tab and browse to the VIDEO_TS folder created by DVDFab and choose it to open the files).

I recommend reauthoring the DVD to backup just the main movie and 5.1 AC3 english audio channel, here's a guide if needed;

If DVD shrink still gives you a problem with opening the files, then you need to process them thru Vobblanker first then open the new files created by vobblanker with DVD shrink as described.

get vobblanker here;
