Just curious to see how long it will take since the movie was released yesterday.

LOL, I knew it wouldn't be long. It's always so urgent to get those back ups done on day one. I usually give it a week for decrypters to catch up with any of the new hollywood junk and then have no problems with backups.

Exactly my point, Creaky. I am a 'newbie' because I use the search function and find the same answers many times over. I'm grateful to those who are so generous with their time and share their knowledge. Anytime I"ve had an answer for someone else, it's already been posted by the regulars. SO, I just lurk and learn. I haven't had a problem or question yet that the search feature hasn't found an answer for. I also appreciate the many tutorials available here. It's really a treasure trove and I direct my friends here often to find help that I can't provide. A great bunch of folks here.

I imagine that people will have compression issues with this movie. I mean this is the worst quality I have seen in some time. This is almost as bad as Sony movies...

The best compression I can get is 84.1%, but this initially starts at a bitrate of about 4500kbps and compressing will take it down to about 3700kbps. They are really pushing it in terms of initial quality on DVDs, especially on a movie like this which is almost entirely CG!!!

As for the ripguard, this is still a joke...I stripped all of the extra crap including the Ripguard from this title:

@ JaguarGod

Yeah, the best I was able to get using Nero Recode was about 80%.

That was movie only, & only keeping the Dolby Digital 5.1 audio.

Got 81% using Clone DVD.

I had no problems, but after all the threads on it I am beginning to hate it and I have not even watched it yet

I agree with Arniebear. I'll probably pick this movie up next week but 1- I'm sure I won't have any problems with it and 2- I probably will be averse to watch it because of all this publicity.

Latest AnyDVD to rip > VOBB to blank the unwanted on a DVD > Shrink to compress > ImgBurn to burn = Never starting a thread asking how to backup a movie

You know what...you guys are probably better off waiting. I was not impressed by this movie. The quality was very bad (PQ). Also, the acting was terrible, especially the little girl Lucy...

The best actors were the Witch and the Lion... Sort of like stealth where the best actors were the plane and the German Sheppard!!

I was at least expecting nice scenery and visuals, but did not even get that. If you have a non-digital TV, then the movie will look good, but not like King Kong...As for the backup, I have yet to look at it, but I am assuming that it will be no difference.

If you can find it for about $12, then buy it now if you know you will buy it, otherwise, just wait until it is $8 or get it previously viewed for $4-$6. I really do not see this one holding its value unless if it is very popular with the younger audiences.

I am just watching it now, did not see it in the theater but my daughter in law took my grandson who is 11 and has autism and he was upset by the treatment of the lion, she had to leave. So I am viewing this one before I let my 5 yr old gdaugher watch it.

Yeah, the Lion did kind of get it bad, but you know how these movies end up... You are doing the right thing by watching this first.

Hi, I'm a real newbie, not a even 2 years old one :P

I've been using DVD Shrink for a while, but since a few months, I encountered some problems doing backups for my DVDs. :( I've been reading the thread to find an answer on how do I backup Narnia? What tools do you use and how to use them?

Thank you

Nick

You can use:

DVDFab Decrypter (free)
DVD Decrypter (free)
AnyDVD + DVD Shrink (AnyDVD is $30)

I am not sure what else can rip these movies, but you will surely get more answers. Also, do a search and you will surely find many threads about this DVD.

Search is an amazing tool. You'd be amazed at what you find. If you've been using DVD Shrink, then the post just before yours is the solution to your question. Use one of those decryption apps and open the "cleaned" files in Shrink. Now we've got another of those how do you do Narnia threads here. LOL

i finally watched the movie last night, was gonna anyway but was driven into watching it sooner due to the endless threads; loved the stories as a kid and really enjoyed the film, especially the Lion and the fighting; the copy came out real nice, can't remember the compression ratio from Shrink, it was whatever most other ppl's ratio was.

I backed up my copy with no problems on the day it came out with the newest version of DVDFab but I don't bother with Shrink. I just do the 1:1 b/c mostly I'm lazy and just want to get the job done. I buy and back up a lot of movies and also back up for friends. In return for b/u for friends, they buy me the DVD blanks so I figure saving one step is worth using 2 DVDs instead of one. It works for me.

What I appreciated about the movie was the lack of gore so often found in action/adventure/fantasy movies. Im not a big stickler for high quality. I figure if I can see and hear the movie, I'm doing good, lol.

Interesting that my main point of starting this thread, encouraging folks to use the site search function, was missed by many. I see the senior members got it but was hoping that newbies would, too. A word to newbies from a newbie: Using Search reveals almost every answer. Give it a try! :D

Well, at least you give us hope that some will be on the ball enough to use Search. Keep up the good work.

@creaky,

I love how you found those threads where people loved the fighting by the Lion. The Lion was in the movie for a whole 3 minutes and the only fighting he did was not even fighting and was not shown in the movie...

Some people just blow things out of proportion. Well, at least you were going to watch the movie anyways, so it is not like you were conned into buying it.

I thought the movie was nice, but not worth buying. This would have been better as an "R" rated movie with more character development, I mean it takes more than 1 night to learn how to swing a sword, especially those European swords. Those things are sluggish and require lots of training to properly wield. However, you cannot ask for too much in PG movies.

I would have liked to see the main Centaur do some more fighting as well as the Lion...Also, while the story was good, it could have been much better.

Was there a book? Rhetorical question and yes. I've not taken the time to read it, but usually there's a bit more character development in the books than the movies. Also, this is mythical where anything can happen, like talking beavers, pans, centaurs and mystical lions. Makes the screenwriter's task a bit easier. ;) Plus the viewer gets to use their imagination
