tales of Symphonia keeps causing errors - loading issues

I have been playing my back up of tales of Symphonia and I am at the last battle. The load on the poor gamecube gets so bad when so many skills and magic spells are being used I get a picture of a spinning dvd in the top right hand corner and then the gamecube shuts off saying there was an error. I have run a disc quality scan and the mini-dvd got a 98 percent quality score from nero, a high of 16 PI errors and an average of 5, A high of 1 PI failure and an average of .01. Would the gamecube have problems reading a dics that has a really good burn quality like that, I have never had a problem the whole game just some slow downs in some heated battles. Would I need to do a pot adjustment? I have never had any problems playing the back ups I have tried so far.

if you have a Qoob chip set it to rusume on all DRE, this happens on my backup of Mario sunshine, the Qoob pro make the cube think the DVD lid has been opend and then it makes it think its been closed and then it runs fine.
