I am a silversmith and would like to able to take picture's of my work to have as a record.I have a Nikon 8700 Cool Pic's camera and the filter kit,I made a little white room as to soften the glare off the silver and I have a little hole cut in the box just large enough for the lens to slip throught ,the box I have is made of white plastic.But I am still getting two much glare back from the silver so you can't see the engraving clearly.I have set up this little deal outside to use natural light, if anyone could please give me some ideas as what to about the glare I would be very thankfull!The camera seems great on portrait mode the clarity is awesome you can zoom in on the PC forever without it becoming pixelated. You could try using reflectors to bounce light from the darkest side back towards the light source, this should soften the light and will give the image a clear definition.
You could also try using low voltage halogen lights to get as white a light source as possible.
Another option would be to try to move away from the subject and then increase the image size afterwards with your desktop editing software.
Thank you very much, all those ideas seem great, I think I wiil try the lighting first. Do you think I need the white room or "box",or would a black back drop work better?

i use a camera light stand,to take pictures of Jewelery.and use a black back ground no flash is involved from the camera.
80% of the time i use a film camera and develop my own negs..,a canon ae1 also the light is the key for good Jewelery pictures.
