Hi guys, I just got my chip replaced and instead of getting a modbo, they gave me a Duo 3 instead!
I happily put it on my ps2 slim and it works great, but I didnt solder the LEDs as i dont know where i can put them (inside the console but visible).
Anyone used it? Any suggestions on the LED placement?

My Review:
1)The Chip is rather slow in detecting the media used.
2)Does not read PS1 games properly (maybe its my installation)
3)Does not boot DVD RW (for me at least)
other that that, it is just a normal chip. Doesnt look perfectly stable to me, but will do.
However, due to the above faults i will take it out once my Mars Action A750 arrives.

I don't know much about the duo3 didn't even know it was out but I can tell you this much... The mod chip has nothing to do with rws not being read that has to do with your ps2s laser, probably the same would go for the "detecting media used" (don't get what you exactly mean by that" and last but not least, if the mod is anything like the duo2/2se then it has a ps1 mode which you need to go into to play ps1 backups.

before i used this i had a mars action a750 in it, and it boots dvdrw. this ps2 slim is brand new.
i took the mars chip out because the logo was distorted and i got a Duo3 in replacement for the other chip i sent. i am still waiting for the replacement mars chip which i will then replace the duo3 with it.
its not the laser, it could be my installation, but im guessing duo chips dont boot rws.
Edit: I am pretty sure now the chip websites selling them dont say it supports DVD RWs. Yet for other chips they do specify DVD RWs.

lemme know how it goes when you get your mars chip back in there I'm really interested. I've been able to boot rws with a magic3.1 yet nowhere does it mention that chip as being able to play them. It could be that after erasing the rw a few times the ps2s laser doesn't read it as well (which is what happened with the magic3.1 'cause it stopped reading the rw I had and when I tried a new rw it worked)

im 95% sure it is the Duo chip not being able to boot RWs, because i have a gamecube with Duo Q chip does not boot DVD RW either.
Modbo 2.1, Mars Action A750, Muppet <-- Had these 3 on ps2 slim so far and all boots DVD RWs.
I think the Duo team does not include DVD RW support in their chips =|
Edit: Just to be sure, i will burn it again and update. Anyway i used the same DVD RW that booted on mars action a750.
Update: It really does not play DVD RW. There's something new to me; it "auto" detects media but actually auto resets one more time to boot (PS1 , DVD)

keep me updated for when you get your mars mod back. 'cause if it really is the mod then I'd like to know how a magic3.1 would be able to boot an rw and how the code in a modchip would effect what media the ps2 would be able to read or not.

PSX Games:
- Press EJECT button to switch on the machine.
- Insert PSX game in tray, then press and hold RESET button to switch off machine.
- Now hold the RESET button to start up your machine. Only release the RESET button once the Blue LED light of the Eject button lights up.
try that and see if the PS1 games load.

WEStar , sure I will update.
Steimy, thanks for the tip. However, I will not be using this Duo 3 anymore as it doesnt boot DVD RW. The Mars chip will be back in abt 2wk's time and i'll do an update.
Edit: I have another v12 ps2 slim pre mod with matrixy infinity CLONE. (shows Infinity 1.38 on ps2 logo). Bought it cheap 2nd hand and doesnt boot dvd rws either.
Im guessing the chip actually supports RW but the modder left the wire out to save time =|

Finally the update:
Mars Pro GM 806 works on my V14 (though most websites say only up to V12).
IT BOOTS DVD RW.
Duo 3 does NOT boot DVD RW.
Mars Action A750 and Mars Pro GM 806 do not have logo correction for V14.
Nuff said, changing 3 chips really made me mad. the wires were neat the first time, but for the final installation they were all messed up and I messed up the "H" point on the lower left side of the board. The copper was all gone and I couldnt get any solder on.
finally i soldered the wire directly on the chip on the mobo. dont know what that's called anyway, but some diagrams have them as the "alternative B G H I " points.

I have installed a few Duo3, I have not tried DVD RW media because no one really uses it for games, but the Duo 3 is a very stable cheap mod, and it autoboots all media.

yup i've read alot on the net which says the Duo chip is very stable. I think it is usable. However I like to boot dvd rw first to check if the iso is working before i back it up.

thanks for the update aaur (assuming you used the exact same rw disc)... I'm still shocked that the mod can make a difference as to what media type can get booted.
