PS1 CDs on PS2 console with swap magic

I have a version 9 PS2 with swap magic 3.3 cd and dvd, and the flip top case.
I have never had a problem booting DVD backups, however a ps1 cd with i ripped onto my computer, and works in psemu will not boot up in my console. It is definetly a working image file, and the swap magic cd loads fine but it says "not a valid ps2 game" Ps2 should be able to play ps1 games as far as I know, but is there a conflict with swap magic or something? Also, I burned image file with Nero at 4x onto a Sony blank Cd-R. Any suggestions?

swap magic can't boot ps1 game, get breaker pro or a modchip.
