Ok, check a couple of things! First of all, do you have a sony dvd player? if so try a cd-rw! even if its not sony try anyway!

Read the documentation and see is there any info like, does it support vcd1.1 or 2.0 which usually wouldnt be a problem anyway!

Well i cant understand why it wont play it then but you have to remember that some dvd players actually dont support cd-rs yet they say they support svcd. cd-rs are burned where as real cd's (yes there are real svcd's on sale!!) are pressed so some dvd players will only play pressed cd's!

hmm thats odd then! It must have some weird problem with the vcd itself then! Check to see if your dvd player will only play vcd1.1 which is possible because nero does vcd 2.0.

Use a program called DVD Burn & copy pro available from most if not all file sharing programs. It has an online tutorial with pictures "idiot-proof"

Please note further that you must burn the disc in VCD or SVCD mode depending on the encode and your player must support MPG1

If not buy a cheap ApexDVDplayer at wallmart.

B© pro is built on TMPG Foundation technology so its pretty good although the file sizes are a little large for my liking>

Dont give up its easy to encode just keep on plugging away you'll get it!! I'll check back to see how its working out.

Burt just get the program it has an online tutorial a young child can follow! Dont waste time figuring something out when you dont have to.

This program walks you through step-by-step with pictures and it uses tmpg as its encoder, it also has a file splitting built into tmpg's tools and shows you how to do that with pictures as well. dvd burn and copy pro Purfect for you.....later you can try the latest tmpg for svcd's which may very well be compliant with your standalone player!

Just because your dvd player plays vcd's doesnt mean that it plays svcd's. Almost all dvd players play vcd's but its hard to find one that plays svcd's because they are encoded in mpeg2 instead of mpeg1. Try an Apex. They are cheap and compatible with almost anything. Or you can get the JVC XV-N50 from Best Buy for $119. I just bought it and it plays everything I throw at it.

Samsung DVD players have a great reputation for playing anything except divx! I have one and i've tried everything on it and loads of different types of media and it just plays so well!
