Here is a link to a little tutorial I did about loading homebrew apps from a USB Flash\Pen Drive with Swap Magic 3.6:

http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/330707

It is only possible to do if you have a USB pen Drive. A PS2 memory card has nothing to do with this type of loading. Hope this answers your questions. If you got any questions, post and I'll try and help you. Lates.

All right, I have to apologize for misinforming you that it is not possible to load homebrew apps from a memory card using Swap Magic 3.6. Today I tried it out and was succsessful after a few tries. The whole process in getting the apps to your memory card is completely different from the Pen Drive Process. It is only possible through a CD\DVD burn. If you would like for me to show you how just ask and I will make a tutorial on how to get homebrew apps to the memory card and able to use from the Swap Magic 3.6 main screen with a push of a few buttons. Lates.

Ok I will but give me a minute, K. A HDD stands for Hard Disk Drive, same as Hard Drive. I am gonna do the tutorial with notepad then when I'm done I'll post it. The tutorial will be for transferring your homebrew apps to your memory card and then bein' able to access those apps from the Swap Magic 3.6 Start Screen.

OK... This tutorial I will be writing is for loading hombrew apps from the Swap Magic 3.6 Start Screen with the press of a few buttons. In order to actually do this tho' you will first need to get your chosen hombrew apps transferred to your memory card. This will be possible by way of a CD\DVD burn with an installer ELF that will transfer your CHOSEN homebrew apps to your memory card.

Things You Will Need:

*PS2
*Memory Card
*Blank CD\DVD
*CD\DVD Burner
*ISOBuster or MagicISo
*CDVDGEN
*Apache 2
*Nero Burning Rom to create a CD installer
*DVD Decryptor to create a DVD installer
*Swap Magic 3.6
*Swap Magic Boot File: http://www.swapmagic3.com/SMBOOT.ZIP
*Homebrew Apps: You can find a good variety here:
http://www.sksapps.com/index.php?page=downloads.html

OK... So now that you have everything you need, it's time to begin.

1. Download and extract http://www.swapmagic3.com/SMBOOT.ZIP to a place of your choice.

OK this file is actually prepacked with some apps. I am not sure what the apps are and what they do. I am going to show you how to replace these apps with apps of your choice.

2. So now we will delete the files from the Download that we will not be using.

Delete: *3Stars.nfo *CDLOADER.txt *iml2iso.exe *NAPLINK.nfo *PS2LINK.txt *README.txt

Now you should only have the remaining files: *SMBOOT folder, *DUMMY.000 file, *INSTALL.ELF file, *PS2.cue file, *PS2.iso file, and *SYSTEM file.

3. Now open IsoBuster or MagicISO, I will be using MagicISO. Once the program is running, go to file and choose open, with IsoBuster you will choose open image file. Now go to where you saved the PS2.iso file that came with the downloaded SMBOOT.ZIP and choose it. Once opened, highlight all the files within the PS2.iso, right click and choose extract. You then will need to choose where you will extract the files. I recommend extracting the files into a new folder different from the one where you have all the recently downloaded SMBOOT.ZIP files.

4. OK so now that you've extracted all the files from the PS2.iso to the folder of your choice. Open the folder where you extracted the files to. You will now need to delete all of the same files I told you to delete from earlier. The reason I told you to delete them from the start is so that you weren't confused with all of the files and what they're for. OK so delete: *3Stars.nfo *CDLOADER.txt *NAPLINK.nfo *PS2LINK.txt *README.txt

5. OK now all that should be remaining in your extracted folder is: *SMBOOT Folder, *DUMMY.000 file, *INSTALL.ELF, and *SYSTEM file. Ok so with your extracted folder still open, it's time to open the SMBOOT folder. Once within the SMBOOT folder you will then need to delete the following: FILE01 thru FILE07. The only remaining files should be FILE00 and FILE.LST

6. Still with the SMBOOT Folder open, this is where you will be putting your hombrew apps. OK so put 4 apps of your choice into the folder. Once the 4 apps of your choice are into the SMBOOT Folder you will then need to rename the 4 apps accordingly: FILE01, FILE02, FILE03, FILE04.

Example: HDL_7C.ELF rename to FILE01
HDDF48.ELF rename to FILE02
PGEN_12.ELF rename to FILE03
SNES_EMU.ELF rename to FILE04

7. Now that you've added and renamed the apps of your choice. It's time to fix the FILE.LST file to match the current files in the SMBOOT Folder. So it's time to open the FILE.LST file with notepad. Once open, erase:

FILE01=IPCONFIG.DAT;1(PS2LINK)
FILE02=SMBOOT0.ELF;1(3STARS)
FILE03=SMBOOT1.ELF;1(CDLOADER)
FILE04=SMBOOT2.ELF;1(PS2LINK)
FILE05=SMBOOT3.ELF;1(DEMO)
FILE06=SWAPMAGIC.ELF;1(NAPLINK)
FILE07=SWAPMAGIC.ICN;1(ICON)

replace with; example:

FILE00=icon.sys;1(CONFIG)
FILE01=SMBOOT0.ELF;1(HDL_7C) " this will be the app you chose "
FILE02=SMBOOT1.ELF;1(HDDF48) " this will be the app you chose "
FILE03=SMBOOT2.ELF;1(PGEN_12) " this will be the app you chose "
FILE04=SMBOOT3.ELF;1(SNES_EMU) " this will be the app you chose "

Here are the methods in which you will use to boot the apps from the Swap Magic 3.6 start screen: UP + L1 = SMBOOT0.ElF
UP + L2 = SMBOOT1.ELF
UP + R1 = SMBOOT2.ELF
UP + R2 = SMBOOT3.ELF

Once you've done all this, click file then click save. Now you are done adjusting your FILE.LST to match the apps that you added to the SMBOOT folder.

8. Close all folders you may have open except for your extracted folder, but minimize it. Now it's time to rebuild the files to make an .iso so you can burn to disc. Now open CDVDGEN. Choose create new project then click OK. Next choose DVD-ROM Master Disc then click OK. With CDVDGEn still up, restore your extracted folder and place the two open applications side by side. Now it's time to drag and drop your files from the extracted folder to CDVDGEN under where it says File Name. You will need to drag and drop the files from your extracted folder in this order: SMBOOT folder, DUMMY.000, INSTALL.ELF, then last the SYSTEM file. Once you have all the files in CDVDGEN under the File Name tab you can close your extract folder. Now with your files in CDVDGEN click on the Volume tab. OK now all you will need to fix under the Volume Tab is the Disc Name and License Area. For Disc Name enter SLUS 20071. For License Area, pretty much self-explanatory.

9. Once you've enterd all the info. click the REC tab. Once you've clicked on the REC tab a window should pop up asking you to save. Save to a place where it's easy for you to remember. It can be what ever name you want to save it as. I chose SWAPMAGIC. Ok so now you've saved an .iml file. Once you've saved an error message should then pop up. Just press OK, don't worry. When the window disappears after clicking OK, close CDVDGEN. You will be prompted to save changes to untitled, you don't need to. Just click NO.

10. OK now it's time to build the .iso. Open the Apache 2 program. Go to file then click import IML file. Go to where you saved the iml created with CDVDGEN and click open. You should now see all the files from the iml file in the Apache 2 program. Next go to file and click Build ISO. Again you will be prompted to save. Save the new .iso in a place where you can remember and access it easily. Wait till the .iso is finished being created.

11. Ok you have just created an .iso that is now ready to be burned to a CD-R. Note that if you wanted to create a DVD you would need to add a DUMMY file of greater size. I am not going to assist in how to create a DUMMY file. So now insert your CD-R into your burner and then open Nero Burning Rom. Once open, don't worry about all the different options, just simply go to the Open tab on the bottom right corner of the New Compilation window and click. Find the .iso you just got done creating with Apache 2 and click open. Next choose the recorder you will be using to burn the .iso Once you've found the recorder you are going to use, click ok, then a Burn complilation window will pop up. All the options that need be checked should alreay be checked. So next just click the burn tab in the upper right hand corner. Once clicked, the burn process will begin and now all that's left to do is wait for it to finish.

12. Your CD-R is finished. Now it's time to install your apps to your memory card. OK... so place your memory card in your PS2 and then turn on your PS2 and load Swap MAgic 3.6 CD. Once Swap Magic 3.6 CD is loaded use the slide card to swap the Swap MAgic 3.6 CD disc with your newly created SMBOOT disc. When you have completed the swap press X and wait for your files to be transferred to your memory card. If all goes well at the end of the installation, the screen should read Installation complete. So now it's time to see if this works. Reset your PS2 and eject the SMBOOT disc and put in your Swap MAgic 3.6 disc, should work with either the DVD or CD version now. Once Swap Magic 3.6 has loaded it is now time to see if all went well. OK but first I need to explain the process of which buttons are assigned to which apps. Here are the methods in which you will use to boot the apps from the Swap Magic 3.6 start screen: UP + L1 = SMBOOT0.ElF, UP + L2 = SMBOOT1.ELF, UP + R1 = SMBOOT2.ELF, and UP + R2 = SMBOOT3.ELF

Example: I have the HDLoader patched version ELF which I renamed to FILE01 as SMBOOT0.ELF so to load it all I do is press UP + L1 at the Swap Magic 3.6 main screen and presto, HDLoader has now booted.

Well, that is all. I hope you were able to follow the instructions. If you need help or maybe there is something you don't quite understand just post and I'll try my best to help you out. Lates.

Yeah, this method is so you will not have to swap your Swap Magic disc with the HDloder disc or which ever Homebrew apps you have burned on a disc. A standard PS2 memory card is only 8MB, and does not have enough room to store an actual PS2 game. But if you have a Hard Drive connected to your PS2 with games installed, then you can install the HDLoader ELF into your memory card using the method I described and access the Hard Drive from the Swap Magic start screen without having to Swap for your burned HDLoader disc.

Well I'll try my best to describe homebrew apps. Homebrew apps are not PS2 games. They are a form of code that the PS2 is able to read and then load. The form of code meaning it is some program that someone has created specifically for the PS2. There are alot more technical details that I just don't know so maybe if someone else can describe homebrew apps alot better than I just did. Or you can always use google.

So do you have a Hard Drive connected to your PS2? Which program(HDLoader\HDAdvance) do you use to access the Hard Drive and is it a retail version or a burned copy of HDLoader or HDAdvance? I ask this because if you have the retail version of either HDLoader or HDAdvance, there is no need to use Swap Magic to load either disc.

Well basically, the method I described is for transferring Homebrew Apps to your memory card. Not actual PS2 games. If you go to:

http://www.sksapps.com/index.php?page=downloads.html

Browse this site and you will find a variety of homebrew apps you can use on the PS2. All homebrew apps that are capable of being loaded from the Swap Magic start screen must be in ELF format. So if you have an ISO thinking you can load that from the Swap Magic start screen, guess again.

I hope this answered your questions. If not just post again and I'' try my best to help you understand. Peace.

Hi. I have Swap Magic 3.8 Coder, and I followed these instructions, and I managed to get the SNES emulator burned and then installed onto the PS2, but my problem is, I have no idea on how to actually get the ROMs to work. Is there a specific way to do this by burning a cd or dvd and then loading the emulator then running the disc, or is there something completely different? Thanks in advance for those who can help.
